It would have been so easy to fix the plot of this game (ending spoilers)
The final boss in this game is so pointless that even he admits he doesn't know what the hell he's doing there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7M6Pg6CT0Q

The sad part is that It wouldn't have taken much effort at all to turn him into at least a descent villain.

Replace Kurosawa on the rooftops with Aizawa. That would have made the narrative flow better. The story doesn't need much rewriting to fit that in. Either have Aizawa plotting behind his father's back or have them scheming together, while giving Aizawa a much more active role. Have Aizawa shoot the people on the rooftop and give him some monologue about the clans to replace Kurosawa's rant.

Basically just remix Kurosawa's and Aizawa's roles somewhat and as a cherry on top involve Morinaga somehow too to fix his off-screen death.

These relatively small changes would have made the plot make more sense and would have given the player some much needed emotional investment to bring down Aizawa in the end.

Instead we get Mr. "I'm not even sure myself why I'm here" as the Final Boss.

Sure the plot wouldn't still be a masterpiece but it would be better than this...

I would've disliked it a lot more if the fight itself wasn't epic as all hell.

There's a lot of that in this game. Great moments, great gameplay, great singular stories but a messy whole. Aizawa was such a great boss fight but sadly the reason to fight him wasn't. When a villain is properly build up in the story it makes that epic fight just that much greater.

Aizawa needs to see if he can beat Kiryu in a fight... after losing to him in a 2v1 at the start of the game. Because the strong should lead or something.

The PS3 Yakuza games had some of the worst plots in the entire franchise. The absolute needs for conspiracies and twists in every game kind of does the series a disservice a lot of the times.

I just don't get how nobody recognized the literal leader of the Omi when he walked up to them. Meanwhile they have encyclopedic knowledge of every other remotely noteworthy yakuza.

That is also a very good point.

Kyriu was out of the loop for some years, Saejima spent most of his life in prison, how would he know current Omi leader? Who else saw him mascarading as detective?

Kiryu hasn't been out of the loop for that long and keeps getting dragged in. Kurosawa is old and it's implied that it took effort to become the chairman. Did he Rise the ranks in couple years from a much lower position? Because otherwise Both Kiryu and Akiyama should know him. Akiyama especially since he has a business in Sotenbori that kind of competes with the Yakuza there. It would be strange that he never found out who the chairman of Omi is.

Saejima is really the only one who has a good excuse since he was in prison for most of the timeline of the series and got thrown back in almost immediately.

Kiryu's not the kind of guy to keep track of what the Tojo clan does starting with the 3rd game. Why would he keep track of who's in charge of a Kansai based organization whose leadership was in tatters when he last dealt with them? Even on the off chance if Kiryu did, he'd have no reason to know what the guy even looked like since Kurosawa was used to not being a public figure.

Akiyama.... well... we are talking about the same guy who cleary knew about Kiryu, yet couldn't recognize the walking one-man army when it matter and got his ass kicked for it.

Kurosawa should have just been bitter that he worked so hard then gets it taken away by cancer. That's all the motivation he needed. It got so messy for no good reason. Aizawa could have remained the final boss. He could have killed all the Tojo clan and destroyed everything out of anger that he got used and his sworn brother got screwed over and killed as pawns in a dumb power struggle among old men.

I really just wish the rooftop fight ended with Saejima launching Kiryu over the gap with pure strength to confront them. Woulda been so sick. Instead we just got this ending that was literally all over the place just jumping around the city every 10 minutes.
