Tools can they be given to a different villager?

I just bought the game & started playing. Crafting tools seems a bit clunky. I didn't know that the person that made the tool owned it. Is there a way to give the tool to another villager? My doctor made it but I want the forester to have it. Also I don't know how to make the person use the tool? Is it automatic if they have it?

Tools are not owned by the person who made them. Once made, tools go into a general village inventory that you can see by clicking on the icons in the upper left of the screen. In order to assign a tool to a villager, you need go into your furnishings and build a tool storage, then assign that storage to your villager. Tools placed in the storage become property of that villager. This, works the same way with weapons, clothing, and armor.

An owner of a tool can also give back this tool to the "general village inventory", afair, and someone else can take it into his tool storage.

One thing to note. Pirates and goblin tribes can see what's in your general inventory. So if you have a bunch of unassigned tools sitting around, they will often ask for them as tribute. Assigned tools can not be demanded as tribute.
