How do you prepare for winter? I mean i guess making sure you have enough food. But how do you know that you have enough food? Now i constantly get the minus points for mood.

For me, I always pause the game at the start and select a convenient site for building, close to resources but also close to some cotton and apples if possible. The apples can make the difference before the 2nd year tomato crop comes in.

I build a 8x8 grid of tomatoes and 8x8 potatoes for the first year and it always covers my needs, though a 6x6 would probably do. Extra cooked food can be used to placate any overly xenophobic villages or raw food sold to the Trader.

Also like to have 5 Foundies by the end of winter year 1 and giving them extra rations can help with poor moods as well as fulfilling their wishes.
