pause the game, read the tooltips and try to be logical :blocky:
no offense.a few minutes in game should do to understand the mechanics

Desperados, tips are going to pop up that tell you when you missed something.

For more info, check the encylopedia in the top right.
For even more info, ask the communtiy :)

Hope you'll have a lot of fun!

Read the Encyclopedia, the ? button in the upper right. Also watch your colonists wishes. In the early game some of their wishes are things you should be doing anyway.

The menu of the migrant does not work - after talking with the colonist, I click on the new migrant - and nothing - his menu does not open (((

Select a colonist and right klick the migrant while your colonist is still selected. You will get several options of interacting with them :)

Not the dev's fault if you don't have the time to read the infos that appears when you click on the "?" at the top right of your screen ... lol.

I thought about not having a tutorial being a detriment when I first started playing then quickly realized that the game doesn't need one. Everything you need to progress is laid out before you on screen. If you can't be bothered to look at the screen and figure out what to do then more power to you. Most of us will just play the game and have fun.

I do find it interesting that someone that doesn't have time to play a game without a tutorial had the time to tell us about it.

Those infos are too obvious (like "wood is used to make tables") and don't answer much like: where is the job list, from which I can easily (un)assign professions? What are those 2 or 3 stars in green in the profession tab? Etc.

Yeah, so interesting that I had like one spare minute in my life to say smtg here.

.....

Anyway, I'm giving it another try and things are going fine, mostly.

The star system represents the amount of time (it's not a matter of priority here) your colonists will spend doing whatever their job is.

For exemple, one of my colonist has 3 stars as a forester (you can click the little arrow to pick which forester task it should be focusing on) and 1 star as a doctor. (for splints only)

That colonist will spend most of his time doing forestry stuff, a tiny amount of his time caring for broken arms/legs if there's any AND will also spend some time relaxing/chatting. That last part can't be avoided unless you micro-manage your settlers to not let them relax/chat with each other which you shouldn't do too often to avoid burnouts and lack of social interactions.

Another exemple, my two farmers are set on 3 stars farming and 1 star building because, as of now, I know I can allow them some time to build during all seasons because I always have enough food to go through the winter. Also, since nothing will grow during winter time, farmers will only be able to cook food (if they can) so, setting them on 1 star builder is also a good way to keep them occupied when there's no farming stuff to do. (like I mentionned earlier, since the star system is about "time spent doing something", even if the farmers are 1 star builders, they WILL spend most of their time building if they can't do anything else)

As far as I know, a single colonist can learn and do any amount of jobs. My most "jack of all trades" one was a Crafter/Doctor/Farmer/Forester. Since crafters and doctors can't always be active, I set him on 1 star farmer only for cotton gathering and 1 star forester so he has something to do during winter.

The only "job" you can't micro-manage is the soldier one. If you click on the tiny sword at the top of the screen, your colonist will go into "combat mode" and will go equip their armor/weapon and will pretty much lose their free will while this option is toggled on so you can control them more easily to prepare for battle. (you can also toggle combat mode for each colonist individually by clicking the tiny sword they have around their picture when you select one of them)

I must admit that the star system confused me aswell since I thought it was based on priority levels until I found a post of one of the dev explaining it.

No problem! Just know that as long as your colonists have food and are able to protect themselves, you are doing fine and can do whatever you want. A good doctor is also crucial if you really want to be safe.

@dbvel

My apologize. It appeared to me as if you were surfing the board, saw something from a year and a half ago that you didn't like and decided to leave a negative comment before moving on. I didn't realize that you were a fellow player looking for some help. I should have asked.

As you can see, several players around here are extremely helpful. Just ask away. In fact, you could join the Discord channel where people are always more than happy to help. Sorry again. Hope things go better for you.
