moving cotton

Would it be possible to move cotton plants or even farm our own cotton? I built my house around some cotton in a courtyard, but the game placed a roof over the entire thing and now people all insist a floor is missing in the house and won't of course building a floor when the tile is blocked.

You can't move ore/cotton/apple tree.
You have to build around.
