i think a training dummy would be really useful too
While not all of the Reapers are balanced 1:1, there really isn't a best one. To maximize everything, you'll need to rotate between several.
a lot of aoe damage can make it look like its doing more than it actually is. personally in most arpgs I tune for single dmg and am just happy that aoe's are included, because lets be real, trash mobs are going to do fast regardless of what you set up for, be it a single target monster that kills in 1 hit and is like a machine gun, or if its an aoe that takes 5 seconds a kil but the room is now cleared, its possible the aoe technically cleared that room faster, but then you get a big boi on you, something that is a real threat, and aoe no longer matters, its all about how much dps you put out.
at least this is this is the position im in more often than not, I either need to kill the trash mobs that will hit me fast, where single target would be more effective, or I need to kill the big boi faster where single target is more effective, most enemies I can just run circles around and not care but the few that actually will hit you, I want those dead yesterday.
at least for me this is where a dps counter comes in place, if you want to have a trash mob dps counter, than a second dps meter that has a 10 target spawn would be nice. personally I think aoe dps dummy targets are kind of useless due to skills that vary the size of the aoe and how situational dps in that form is, sometimes a room will spawn 4 targets, sometimes you get a jackpot of a room and it spawns 100~.
at least this is how I see see it. getting to know what im doing is having an effect and how much of one is somewhat important, and seeing it on a dps dummy would be alot easier than trying to parse out 5% upgrades on live targets that can kill you if you if your mind wanders.
Maximizing damage increases the speed at which you can blow through Battlefields or the Slorm Temple, but it really doesn't matter. The difference in rewards between Wrath 2, Wrath 5 or Wrath 10 is just a drop in the bucket and it's hardly even felt due to the incredible expense of everything. Furthermore, due to the way Reapers level, being based purely on kill count, it's most efficient to play at the highest Wrath level you can, regardless of what that might be, that allows you kill enemies quickly, without becoming bored.
The real problem with a training dummy though is many Reapers require you to take damage or drop resources to activate their effects, so a single-target dummy won't tell you much of anything because your primary and secondary abilities will only end up being a fraction of your total damage. That's also ignoring the fact that the most dangerous enemy in the game at the moment is probably a new one that was just added this last patch, the Strict Tutor. His elite form is likely to one-shot you in the heat of a battle or coming out of a breach if your single-target damage is extremely high and you're not inside his bubble.
I'm not opposed to the idea by any means. I just don't think it will provide much benefit in this game, as compared to something like World of Warcraft or Grim Dawn. The non-damage focused Reapers can be surprisingly effective, despite how they might initially appear.
Personally, for all three of my characters, it would be useless due to their skill spread, gear and attributes.
