I was expecting something that required a bit of reaction and thinking, like One Finger Death Punch, but instead I found this game to be nothing but mashing. You can beat anything by just killing your fingers.

Then I figured "if it's so mindless, I might as well put up a macro recording to play the game for me." So I did. That was a lot more interesting. I actually got quite a kick out of figuring out some kinks that a macro recorder has.

So after one day and one night just letting this fancy screensaver play itself, I got every character unlocked and maxed, and I have zero interest in doing anything with them because the game has no challenge in it. If you have working fingers, you'll beat it. This isn't the same as simple being fun, One Finger Death Punch was simple and that was a lot of fun because it bothered to require at least some kind of brain chemistry and had variation. A small child might see the amusement in this thing on a cellphone, that's who I'd recommend it to.

Sad, really. I liked the sprites.

this game has received sm unjust hate tbh.. yes it can be perceived as a "simple" button masher fighting game buuut really thats whats so enjoyable about it.. 0 need on memorizing combos/attacks... just make some fast paced + well placed attacks... the specials are auto (or press A) which means 0 need 2 press any other buttons... just continue with the

each fighter does have a different range of attacks so we suggest unlocking the fighters needed for achievements 1st (they are in achievement order) so yall can pick a fav based on yalls playstyle... death chan lvl 6 is good 4 this till get suu or mary lvl 6 (btw lvl 6 is a good place 2 get a "feel" on a fighter aside 4rm reading stats... lvl 10 is max)

there are also ways 2 just straight up cheat if thats yalls thing... didn't find a need 4 them even with accessibility issues (just took breaks as necessary w game on hence the amount of hrs played so far)... js

Pros:
- Simple and somewhat fun gameplay
- Original music
- There are skins for all of the characters that you can buy using souls that you've collected
- Pixel-art is pretty decent
- Low price for the game

Cons:
- Lack of content, there is not too many stages in game (Only 9 stages total)
- Playing on insane difficulty that is supposed to be end game content gives like NO SOULS i mean what the hell??? It's totally not worth doing compared to normal and hard as far as farming souls is concerned
- They removed gaining exp for the characters from playing so now you gotta use souls not only for buying characters and skins but also to even level your characters
- Even if you perfect a Normal difficulty stage (As in you take no damage whatsoever) you still gotta play it multiple times in order to unlock next stages which is there just to waste your time on the early stages that give very little souls amount per run and like I said there is NO EXP for your characters for doing stages
- Last stage gives only 1000+ souls per run and leveling characters from lvl 6-10 is pretty damn expensive
- Characters that have low attack range from basic attacks like Emmy for example seem to be pretty worthless since their special duration or damage from basic attack is not any different from long range attacking characters
- No online leaderboards for infinite stages

Overall it's a pretty decent game but I really hope that at least some of the things I've listed in Cons list will get addressed.

Kawaii Deathu Desu is basically the sum of its parts. It is about as straight foward as a game can get. If there is an enemy to the left, attack left. If there is an enemy to the right, attack right. It really is as simple as that. There has been a lot of comparisons to One Finger Death Punch and I can understand where people are coming from but there is one crucial difference: One Finger Death Punch (OFDP) insists that you don’t button mash. You won’t directly lose if you do, but you will be made vulnerable, and will likely die as a result. It will also damage your score at the end of the level. Kawaii Death Desu does not have such scruples. For this game you will have to break out the old crack hands and go to town as you mash left and right slaughtering thousands before you.

So is it just a cheap “no skill” OFDP clone? Well no. I honestly don’t think that is at all fair to say. This game didn’t get a lot of attention but if you look at footage you’ll see that a lot of work and care seems to have gone into the animation and every level has its own background music. There is also a lot of cool art and every playable character has there own series of moves, attacks and sound effects. Granted these are all controlled by the same two buttons, but it shows a level of care and passion for the game that a genuinely ‘cheap “no skill” OFDP clone’ would not have had.

However, the game does very little to promote or steer you towards its charms. You start the game being able to use one character and access just one level. Every time you play a level you will get a currency called souls. Souls let you buy cosmetics, new characters and level ups. Wining levels lets you access new levels that get progressively harder. The harder the level the more souls, The harder the level the more you are drawn to use your strongest character. This means to get souls as fast as I can I play the same character on the final level over and over again. As a result I don’t get the chance to see all the other characters with their special powers, animations and costumes. I don’t ever go back and play earlier levels to enjoy the different backgrounds and music.

If I could add one thing to this game it would be unlocking a difficulty slider after beating the final level so you can feel free to experience all the games content as you want.

In conclusion, Kawaii Deathu Desu is a fun little time waster. It’s nothing great, but as a way to kill time it’s addictive and low energy, which is personally what I’m after right now. That being said, if you look at this game and think ‘I’m bored to tears just at the idea of this game’. Then I’d give it a miss. It’s only going to be fun if you are in the state of mind t enjoy it.

Very disappointing, as the artwork looks great. It turns out the game is a button spam game with remarkably unreasonable grinding required to unlock even the next stage. From a game play perspective, this is one of the worst game I've ever played. It is not a beat em up, there is no rhythm; there is only mashing A and D. Using auto hot key proves that spam left and right is all the game expects. There is no skill - it's just mashing input. Most importantly, if you have any type of repetitive strain injury or anything, don't touch this game with a 10 foot poll. For only the second time in my many years on steam, I just requested a refund.

So much effort with these games goes into creating 'waifus' that they tend forget about the underlying game.
My issue isn't the visual style nor the music, but rather with the very shallow experience it offers.

It doesn't require any skill, any memorisation or timing, just the spamming of two ("A" & "D") buttons... ad infinitum. Why? To slowly accumulate intentionally small amounts of points to level up characters that require dramatically increasing amounts of points with each level in order to speed up the acquisition of intentionally small amounts of points... you get my drift?

For inspiration they should have looked towards 'One Finger Death Punch' to learn just how much could be done with 2 key presses. 'Kung Fury' itself received criticism for being too simple yet even that offers more complexity than this.

I played in part due to the pixel art which is borderline ok but was still roughly executed.
Music (to me) was very average and forgettable and this is not rhythm game as some have tagged it as.
The only, and I mean only great thing from the audio side of things is the use of the Anime wow meme sound upon level completion - but even then, it's not their own sound to get credit for.

Other issues being non re-bindable controls, so you're stuck pressing "E" to accept and "Q" to exit.
Also, when you pause the game right after you activate your 'super', the super meter still drains...

Get it on sale, play it only if you're ok with the above.

So grateful for my gamepad with Turbo functions.

An extremely grindy and brainless button masher with cute sprites. I'm sure there some people that would enjoy this but i'm clearly not the target audience.

Considering the entire game consists of pressing “left” or “right”, the gameplay is pretty fun. A lot of manic button mashing, and cute over the top animations. This game reminds me of Vampire Survivors or Brotato if they were played on a 2D plane.

However, this game is doomed because of its insanely slow progression. If a game is this simple, it better have quick upgrade paths so you feel like things are changing, even if it’s only a tiny bit at a time. Kawaii Death Desu goes the opposite direction and makes you play the same levels with the same characters over and over again.

Fun for a couple hours, but that’s it. No way, I’m sinking the 15 or 20 hours it takes to properly beat the game and/or unlock everything.
