Are there multiple endings?

Just finished first playthrough and got what looks like a bad ending but I'm not too sure. Are there multiple endings and is there a true one?

That kinda makes me sad though. I get the message that this game is trying to get across, and it does it well. Yet I think the ending is more bitter than sweet. I know time and money goes into making these things, but even if its a paid for DLC, a sweet ending would make everyone's hearts happy.
