German protagonists speaking American English?
Hello,

sorry if that has been asked before. I watched a Youtube video of the game and I really liked it. The start has a great atmosphere, very promising mental successor of games like Commandos.
But what completely breaks the immersion is the German protagonists speaking American English, even when trying to pronounce German words once in a while.
So my big wish is to give these guys (optional) German voice lines or at least a kind of English with a more or less strong German dialect.

Thank you!

Yes, frankly I'd rather there was an option to have all characters speak their own languages with subtitles. I don't speak German, but I can't imagine watching something like Downfall in English.

Das trübt sehr die Atmosphäre das die Deutschen nur in Englisch reden, sehr schade

Really doesn't bother me. I don't notice it sometimes.

The first two missions are a bit misleading in this regard, as you have two German-speaking fellas under your command, it would be logical to hear them speaking German, wouldn't it? But four of the remaining five characters we're getting introduced to are Polish, and although it's indicated that almost all of them speaks multiple languages, Polish would be the one they'd be using among themselves. According to their biographies Polish is the only language all our seven characters speak. German is obviously spoken by the 3 German characters and also by two others, English is spoken also by five of them. Considering all this, I'm pretty much settled with the English voiceovers, maybe not the perfect solution athmosphere-wise, but close to 100% of the players will understand it easily.

I think people's gripe is that said German speaking characters don't have stereotypical German accents in their English voice overs, and many Germans that are encountered in the game speak with these accents. I could see why it bothers some.

This 100% needs to be an option. Iron Harvest has it as an option. It broke my immersion completely and I've struggled to get into the game, particularly as a German.

Nazis have stereotypical German accents, however Ewald is Polish (Silesian) and Manfred is a German born in Poland and his mother is British, so he speaks 3 languages - they should have some accent, but definitely not stereotypical German...

You guys know that you can read the character backgrounds in the menu?

That is correct. I said i can see why some people found it distracting. I never said I found it distracting or cared lol.

There was an old british farce called 'allo 'allo set in Germany-occupied France where all the characters spoke English but in the accent of the language they were actually speaking, down to the Resistance leader who would habitually switch between French and English accents when talking to different people.

"Geralt z Rivii" should speak polish, not german.
