A vow of silence is basically cutting your self off from all idle communications. Altough often joked about, writing to talk to others or even use of sign language count as communications so they would count as braking the vow.

The bad thing about not talking is technically it could harm you if done to long, as those muscles like any other would become weakened and even damaged, meaning you could end up not being able to talk or it may become very difficult to talk. (imagine not walking for a week then trying lol)

You're literally wrong, he is making the noise from his mouth. Your example of feet slapping on the ground is not something he can control. If he didn't have a voicebox he would make not the noise when he jumps. So therefore, he is not silent, he is willingly making the noise.
