Feedback from an actual Gunsmith
First of all, I love this concept and most of the firearms has an almost autistic approach to the parts in them. Very detailed.

I'm especially impressed by the details regarding the machining and bluing.

There are however a few things that really bugs me regarding the game that impacts the sense of realism for my part. These are the ones that I remember the most.

Wrong way of disassembling
On the M4 carbine (AR-platform), you always take apart the the lower and upper, before removing any internal parts.

On the Garand, the op-rod don't require the removal of upper handguard before taken out of the rifle and you can't screw out the two "rails" on the follower rod, as they're riveted together.

On the 1911, you must first remove the firing pin stop before removing the extractor. Also the rear sight can't be removed, but the front sight can easily be taken off and on again in the game. The front sights on (this type of sights) are staked into place and removing will break them. The rear sight sits in a dovetail and is easily pushed out with a punch or a sight tool.

On the break shotgun, several of the pins on the shotgun are never taken out as they're supposed to keep certain parts in permanent (unless the part they keep in are wrecked) and they're flush fitted and polished so you can't see them in real life.

Wrong way of operating
The break shotgun is very detailed (reminds me of why I hate working on these types of firearms in real life) and when disassembling, you remove the front wood to remove the barrel. All correct. However, when packing the firearm for shipping, the player jumps over the removal of the front wood and somehow manages to take the barrel off and stuffs it in a crate. This really makes me cringe to watch!

When the 1911 is empty and having the slide locked back, you can still move the safety in the game. It clips through the slide, which is not how it works in real life. Also, the first shot appears to be double-action and the 1911 is a single-action.

During the testing of firearms, when it gives you directions on like try to put it on safe and pull the trigger etc. In the game on some of the guns, this also "resets" whatever trigger mechanism and requires you to "re-♥♥♥♥" the firearm. If this happened in real life, the firearm would be considered unsafe to use. Also, several of these guns requires the gun to be "♥♥♥♥♥♥" in order for the safety to be used. The M1 Garand being one of them.

Wrong and poor way of dealing with certain jobs and parts
In game I've had a few assignments that has to be handled in a very inefficient way. One being grandpa who want his wood on a shotgun refurbished and the game still wants me to disassemble the gun into every parts, when you only need a few parts taken off.
Same goes with a dude that wanted his stock from a Mauser pistol taken off. The stock is literally the holster for the gun and if you require a gunsmith to do this (unless something was wrong with it), you probably shouldn't be allowed to own such a nice firearm.

The same goes with the "adding scopes to xxx firearm" etc. You don't disassemble the gun more than you have to for that specific order.

Another one was a 1911 where I had to sandblast the sear. That would render that part useless and it would require stoning and polishing to work and even that would probably not fix it. Certain parts can't be magically fixed and it's way cheaper to buy replacements.

Speaking of sandblasting... Glock frame, Glock magazine, Glock anything expect the slide and a few internal metal parts? I was streaming when first playing this and everybody laughed their asses off when seeing a rusted GLOCK :D
If you tried to sandblast a Glock frame, it would disintegrate. It's plastic with a small metal frame inside.

In conclusion, I get that the parts are made after studying blueprints of firearms (and I gotta say, they're pretty dead on) and the developer probably haven't worked on guns in real life, let alone handled a real gun.

Still, I really enjoy this game and I can't wait to see what else they add to it.

Another thing as a retired gunsmith that I'd like to add is that too many of these customer orders involve guns with broken and missing parts, example customer sends you a gun requesting a stock replacement. or another customer wants to convert his M4 into a carbine configuration which is kind of ridiculous as the M4 is already a carbine. The entire AR15/M16 family of firearms are labeled M4 in this game. Anyway in both customer orders the guns have many broken and missing parts. This is not usually the case in these type of customer orders the guns usually arrive intact and functional only requiring the needed conversion parts or replacement stocks. Customers requesting old guns to be refurbished or broken guns to be repaired are likely to have missing or broken parts but not all customer orders do.

I suspect the fact that all AR15 type guns are labeled M4 is the result of a technical limitation where the game can't handle a gun having multiple names.

The developers really need to get a real gunsmith (and firearm instructor) as a consultant. So many little things in this game make me cringe, beyond the issues in OP with the gun assembly/disassembly itself the game displays terrible firearm safety practices. Magazine should ALWAYS be the first thing removed when working on a firearm. Shooting range lets you run around wildly shooting in any direction you please with no regard for the shooting line. No ability to look in the chamber and verify guns aren't loaded.

With how many games exist that don't even touch on RL firearm responsibility and safety and just have the player running and gunning, it's nice to have this game that at least does a little bit, but there's so much more they could do to help educate people on what real life firearms are about.
