And then there's the censoring...
Or perhaps, given their tweets - I'd say the point was a shoddily veiled political statement.

"Nothing has changed in the game itself.
Ultimately, it's about an attitude - and the moral responsibility that we as a German publisher see with us.
In our eyes, the fun of playing does not detract from using alternative symbols such as the Iron Cross"
And this:

"We do not 'censor' insofar as no version internationally will contain these symbols. Not because we have to, but because we want to.
But also a thank you from us for the nice answer."
Main pont seems: reaching customers with the latest hardware and bringing the franchise to more platforms.
Although the old as the world rule still stands; the more the popularity/accessibility, the less the quality.
Releasing this complex in terms of design game also on tablets and phones, will definitely require some things to be toned down across all versions; as we know, the console and tablet versions will use the PC version.for basis
Logically?
I don't see it. Legacy version was updated in 2016 with:
Choose one version you like the most is I'm saying.
Of course to keep up with the technology for this old game, A LOT more needs to be done to make it "2020-compliant". Takes manpower, funds, control, exhaustive playtesting & whatnot... Likely for Kalypso to use all of their resources at hand, which I'm sure they won't because it would require them to focus solely on this franchise for some time and publishers don't do that really. Put some game over another, even if it takes to be a gem.
what about the bad optimization?
unfortunately censorship was a "trend" back when it was done, feelings were more important than having historical accuracy and a realistic environment..
still the option to keep all real symbols is there no? what other censorship was applied?
