What's the use of Namtar Workers ?

I play a lot of Nature Nurturists, but I still do not see the purpose of Namtar Workers. They are extremely expensive for what they do, so much so that even with their bonus to resources collected, it would take an unreasonably long time to cover the cost. Not to mention that they make juicy targets for a human opponent.

I've tried bringing some along with my main armies to collect the resources of newly conquered circles while the army heals, but since the current selection system doesn't let you select military & civilian units at the same time I find that I waste a lot of time simply keeping them along with my army - and if I don't, a smart opponent will just come with some cavalry from behind and massacre my precious monster pumpkins.

Has anyone figured out a good use to them ? Or do you guys think they just haven't reached their final stage yet ?

I think they are just tanky workers and are more combat effective than normal pumpkin workers. Also the bonus resources are nice. Just being curious but have you seen how well they do with all the worker upgrades? That seems to make them even better IMO. But this is all my opinion.
