My favourite game of the series
It's a bullet hell boss rush meets pokemon snap

1: The music is fantastic
2: Each boss is sudden death with Instant retries
3: You shoot them with a camera to trigger next phase
4: Pokemon snap photo scoring system (if you care about points)
5: All the best boss patterns
6: Easy to navigate progression

This is a really good game if you like dodging bullets

Not recommended for people new to Touhou as they will struggle with the difficulty.

A unique addition to the Touhou series starring one of my favorite characters. Started playing Touhou with HSiFS, and found Cirno and Aya to have the best dialogue and interactions. Aya takes center stage in this game. Unlike main series Touhou games, your goal is not to blast your way through waves of enemies. Instead, you are tasked with taking pictures of many memorable Touhou characters as they attack you. Its like Pokemon Snap, except the pokemon are trying to kill you, and the Pokemon are youkai girls. Maybe a poor comparison, but the spirit of the game is similar.

I'd compare the difficulty of this game of LoLK, especially the later stages. Unlike LoLK, which I found too infuriating for my tastes, this game allows you to pick single spell card attacks to complete at a time. If you don't want to do one immediately or get stuck, you can skip it! Another small change that made a big difference for me was the 'quit' button says 'take a break,' which I definitely needed to hear and do after dying 10 times to a single spell card. The Buddhist monk kicked my ass. It also was a gentle reminder that I wasn't done. I managed to complete this game in no small part thanks to that minor wording.

I love seeing Aya in Touhou games as I know there will be some more in depth lore exploration if she is there. She does not fail here, although most info you get is related to spell cards which is interesting enough. If you're looking for a game that can be done in small chunks, or a game that elaborates on the lore of Gensokyo, Double Spoiler and its precursor 'Shoot the Bullet' are great ways to do either. Was super exciting that Kogasa showed up here (spoiler) as she is such a unique character. I won't doubly spoil this game for you, so please play it.
