New film based on the Odyssey
A new film called The Return will be released on December 6th, I'm really excited about it! Do you know of any good films set in Greek mythology? Here are some recommendations:
1- Troy (2004): This is one of my favorite films, plus you get to see Bad Pitt in Greek armor.
2- Helen of Troy (2003): I watched it recently and I found it very enjoyable, it was released just a few months earlier than Troy, so it was overshadowed by it. I especially liked the fidelity to the Homeric texts.
3- Jason and the Argonauts (1963): It is a good watch, but it looks a bit dated. Also, it condenses and mixes the plot of the Argonautica.
4- Clash of the Titans (2010): I remember watching it as a kid, I found it mind-blowing back then, but I am not sure what I would think if I rewatched it today.
5- Hercules (1997): The movie of the Disney Renaissance era, it is probably the film that got me into Greek mythology. Basic plot, but charming visuals.
6- Hercules (2014): I am very critical about race-swapping historical/cultural characters, unless it is the Rock playing Hercules :steammocking:

I think a female Achilles could add an exciting twist. Imagine her transforming into this legendary warrior, conquering the battlefield with fierce, unstoppable drive, only for the story to take a tragic turn as she's caught between the forces of destiny and the demands of her own body. Instead of falling to an enemy, she faces complications in pregnancy, a battle just as relentless, revealing her strength and vulnerability in ways Achilles himself never had to face. It would be a story about power, sacrifice, and the cost of legacy, bringing a whole new dimension to the myth.

Now we're cooking with gas. If you want to make it even more generic, you could add a search for validation from his father who doesn't accept her for being a woman.

Imagine her: a female Achilles, stepping onto the battlefield with a beauty as fierce as her strength, her movements an intoxicating dance of power. She’s driven by a fire to prove herself, her every breath a challenge to a world and a father that cannot bear the intensity of her spirit. Each strike, each clash of metal, only amplifies her allure, a warrior who owns her body and her destiny. Yet beneath this sensual confidence, she’s a woman haunted by love, ambition, and the quiet, relentless ache for acceptance. When her journey twists toward the tragedy of pregnancy complications, the fight becomes more primal, more consuming. It’s a story of desire and defiance, a tale where her raw femininity and strength burn brightly against a world determined to dim her light. This reimagined myth pulses with passion, sacrifice, and the aching beauty of a woman determined to live and die on her own terms.

you may be excited but most of us who are well read of ancient sources find most of the films garbage because they have barbarian actors

a lot of us actually want hellenic actors with english subtitles

I consider myself to be well-read of ancient sources, I have over 20 books about Greek mythology in my personal library, and this doesn't stop me from being excited about a film adaptation.

I am personally not a fan of movies on their original language, but I understand the reasons of those who advocate for them. I watched the Barbarians series in Latin and I didn't find it more inmersive than when I watch Roman Empire movies in Spanish.
