Seriously, that garbage is ridiculous, I'm getting dogpiled by half of the map for no reason whatsoever.
I dont know what you may do wrong. Try to get military access soon so you dont get penalty when crossing enemy borders. Maybe it the campaign type. Im on my 1st try on normal in historical. Maybe it will be different in mythology Idk.
If you attack a greek faction, the rest will hate you for betraying the greek cause. Same when playing a trajan faction.
Once you've beaten troy, then start to work against other greeks to take objective settlements
However, I expected the Greeks to declare war on ALL the Trojan factions and viceversa, not just mindlessly declaring war on the player, which is the case in nearly every game.
Anyway it is quite possible to have a some diplomacy in this game, but you do need to work at it. Make trade deals early on to boost your relationship with those factions.
you can make a deal where you give 100 food and get something back, than make a deal with a second partner that is the exact opposite, you dont loose resources but you do get a relationship boost.
Remember this game is about war, once blood has been spilled it demands more blood be spilled, once wars have been started it is not always easy to stop them. By making trade deals you can prevent wars from starting in the first place as it boosts your relationship with those factions.
If you attack the friends of your friends they will like you less, so it is quite possible that you attacked a popular faction and managed to get your allies turned against you.
So to sum it up, trade deals to increase your relation, dont attack people your friends like to much, keep an army in reserve for when total wars reminds you how bad at diplomacy it can get
Diplomacy has never worked better than in this game...
I get diplomacy is usually trash in these games, I've played every total war since the original shogun except warhammer 2 cause I'm not a fantasy fan. But usually the diplomacy breaks down a bit later in the game not when I'm still building up my home territory. I guess I should reroll and maybe have another go with a different faction because right now it seems like there is no point or direction as its just anarchy without rhyme or reason.
But then again Im playing the mythic campaign so perhaps there is a difference.
Good luck, and hopefully the next game will be a bit more enjoyable for you :)
I've managed to get 5 military alliances now, better late than never. I think I took a buff thingy as Achilles early on that dropped trade deals by 40 points so that didn't help, I'll have to watch out for stuff like that.
Though as Achiless I found out that most reliable ally is Sparta. It keeps confederating with lot of people and other factions seem to hate him, but he haven't ever betrayed me. Reminder... You can always pursue for peace and gain benefits after you destroy 1-2 stacks enemy sends or just wait until someone else kills them. Also Zeus is the king in diplomacy.
