I think this is similar to the encounters, but being able to talk to more NPC's and just having more things that can affect dialogue would be great.
Add this to sandbox mode and we're golden, being able to change and tune certain aspects of the difficulty would be amazing.
Recently bought the game and was having fun until I got my first follower and minutes later we were dead on our first bounty together. He just ran straight in the middle of the area alerting every enemy. I was so annoyed and disappointed that haven't touched the game after that. Still trying to decide if I want to try again or simply just refund. Idk if I have the patience right now to deal with suicidal AI.
I completely avoid companions tbh, they sink resources with little to no value, 'friend for life' pretty much fills the same roll of support with out the tank in resource. Being able to control them in tactical mode, to follow me, wait here, cover fire at this position etc would really help making them more valuable.
It's completely up to you what you want to do with the game, you know what you like and dislike better than anyone.
Personally I really enjoy the game, though feel it would've benefited massively from Early Access. Though the devs have been updating the game and provided a road map, with quite big improvements like with the economy balance, adding new locations, aiming options and a new mode recently. But there's still a way to go before this game is truly special.
I'm hoping the mod-tools are nice, needless to say the game's fun, but it could be fantastic. Interested to see where it goes.
It has so much potential, I would argue it's the most ambitious project Raf was the lead on.
I'm really interested in where the studio will go next. I liked a lot about Weird West, but hope they follow tradition of the imm sims a little more next time, with character creation and first person.
I actually really enjoyed the instance approach to open world.(Maybe that's what you're referring to) I'm not big on my open word games. Much more of a fan of Bloodborne Deus ex way of doing things. Where you have intricate levels.
Would more prefer to see them push that more. Have some quests that could take place entirely in one location.
The only thing I found annoying about the encounters is the lack of choice with them. I think if a player had more ways to control the outcome they wouldn't be as annoying. Like being able to intimidate stillwaters if you have a certain level of reputation or something. Just more that you can do, because most of the times it's always combat. So I agree with you there.
haha that sounds like a completely different game. Unfortunately saw a post saying that the mod update is the final one. they're moving onto another project. Will be very interesting to see what they do next. I kind of hope they expand more on Weird West.
They've put up the modding tools and a guide maybe you can make a little mod like that haha
Looking at the way the game was made, a new studio, made it through the pandemic and seems it wasn't too hot on sales. Seems like they want to move on from it. Maybe not the franchise, but this game in particular. That's my impression anyway.
Could you give a link to it?
Time to modify the Weird West…
For our final update we’re handing our game over to the community.
Mod support is now live

If you're a min-max player and spend any real amount of time farming whatsoever, you pretty much have seen everything the game offers before reaching the last two chapters. The grind feeling kicks in way before you are able to craft a full set of legendary weapons, much less the golden shovel or pickaxe.
