From your description, it seems that you need to find one more piece of the puzzle, but it's hard to determine how much exactly you're missing. Think about how the cop justifies killing your wife. Do you think that his assumptions about the murder are correct? (Based on your answer, I can give more spoiler-free hints.)
I think he can't make this interaction between other characters happen yet because he's still missing a piece of the puzzle. I may very well be wrong though. (Hence my question of what he thinks about the cop's version of the murder - that should tell us if the OP already has that piece of the puzzle or not.)
Do you mean the Polaroid? Because unless I have the cop handcuffed and shot/stabbed, he doesn't care about it. I show him it at the door, he doesn't care and handcuffs me. I give it to the wife, he cuts her off and handcuffs her.
You want not logical? I've even offered the cop desert at this point. :P (To be fair I've really liked the puzzles so far.)
Talk with your wife. Convince her you're in a loop. Talk about the polaroid. Let it on the fridge or give it to your wife dont keep it on you.
Wait for the cop and your wife will mention the polaroid.
If you don't yet know what the polaroid proves exactly, then you need to find out more about the circumstances of the murder and those of the polaroid.
If you already do know what the polaroid is proving, then there is a chance that the _protagonist_ has not realized it yet. Once you have the relevant information about the murder and the polaroid, click on the polaroid in your inventory, and the protagonist will have a revelation. Many players miss this step since the connction is already clear for them (but not for the character).
Once your character has realized the significance of the polaroid, talk to your wife about it (as Bobywan above already said).
Thanks! That was it and I have since progressed. Ironically enough, I had actually looked at the Polaroid and the character made the connection right before I gave up and made this forum post. :P It didn't occur to me that by doing this, the one "failed" attempted I made would now work (because I had tried to let the wife talk to the cop before). Thanks again. :)
