Fall Guys
Linux market share, gone, bigger than you think
As of August 26th 2020, Fall Guys has sold 7 MILLION copies on STEAM : https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/26/21402473/fall-guys-sony-ps-plus-most-downloaded-game-all-time

It is now September 15th, and I'm sure that number is higher, but let's just assume somehow it isn't.

If we look at the current Linux usage on STEAM, it is 0.89% : https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam?platform=combined

So, let's do some math, 7,000,000 * 0.0089 = 62,300 probable units sold (and this is probably higher since August 26th)

Going based on Canadian pricing, that produces... 62,300 x $23 CAD = $1,432,900 CAD revenue

This revenue is far and above what it would take to have proper Linux support for this game. The game engine (Unity) already has native Linux support. The devs just need to actually use it.

That's the generally provable cost adding EAC to this game has. But that number is probably higher since more units have sold since August 26th. Now that EAC has made Fall Guys fully unplayable on Linux, I know that generally everyone will be seeking a refund.

This was fully avoidable. The developers could have, and could still release a native Linux version. They could also use anti-cheat that doesn't break through Proton. And they could have actually listened to their PAYING LINUX USER BASE, warning them the game would break if they added EAC.

And yet they ignored all of us, and continue to ignore us.

You may not like Linux. You may not understand Linux. But our money is exactly the same value as yours, and we expect to actually get what we pay for.

Fix this devs.

Dude, I don't think the issue is as simple as you think it is. Your math only accounts for the money the company got from Linux users and it assumes they all paid in Canadian. But it's never that cut and dry. Because lots of people probably get a cut from that pricetag of the game, so their profit probably ends up being a lot less than what you are assuming it is. Without working for their company, you have no real idea how much they made from Linux users.

It would cost $10,000-$20,000 to release a native Linux version. Any way you slice it, they've made enough money to justify releasing a Linux version and turn a profit that grossly exceeds that.
Needs citation, because I amm pretty sure Loki software ported Unreal Tournament for a lot more then 20K.............. in 1999.
