Micro-transactions and In-Game Currency
From what I've found on Twitter and Discord;

Kudos can be earned through playing the game but can also be purchased with cash!
Gold crowns can be earned by winning rounds, no news if these can be bought.
There will be a battle pass but I've been told it will be free for everyone, no subscription.

Fall Guys doesn't have the worst microtransaction practices but it's certainly looking like a Fortnite wannabe that's far more heavily marketed towards children.

And to top it all off, they're charging an entry fee for the game as well, rather than being Free-to-Play like many other online games with microtransactions.

I am avoiding this game.

Microtransactions are intentionally designed to seem harmless and friendly, they are made to be exciting and are developed with the purpose to trigger an addictive adrenaline rush and make the user spend more and more money.

To you who reads this, you might not be susceptible to these tactics. However, there are young, vulnerable, and impressionable people who are very easily hooked by these tactics.

It manipulative, it is greedy, it is wrong.

I don't blame the developers, I blame the publishers, executives and local governments for refusing to acknowledge and act how harmful these practices are.

Do not let this be normalised, call it out, spread awareness.
If you see games using these profit tactics, especially towards children, don't be silent.

Edit:
This post was originally made because Fall Guys did not properly disclose the presence of microtransactions/in-app purchases on their store page (while they were accepting pre-orders).
Since release, an "in-app purchases" tag has been added to their store page.

You own over 1300 steam games, you are not in the position to lecture ANYONE about transactions and purchases.

Seems you guys have major addiction problems and cannot stop yourself from purchasing in game items.

" Games 1,318 "
In-game items? What?

Also, you have no idea how I even got these games in the first place, this is off topic and irrelevant. Stop trying to distract from the real issue.

Its on topic, you are lecturing others about buying things, when you yourself own over 1300 games, but want to come here to chastise others who bought this game when you dont even own it?

Wagging your finger at others who buy something while you own 1300 games is hypocritical and every right to call you out on it when you come at people on a public forum for buyikng cosmetics in a game.

run along simpleton go ask mommy for another $20, go cut the grass

Calm down here, no need for a condescending or insulting tone, do you feel attacked by hearing the truth?

As I've said I didnt buy most of these and icrotransactions are something completely different, but you dont seem to understand that. But what could one expect from someone that just randomly attacks people with "mommy" insults.

Stop insulting other people, especially ones you don't know one bit - it just makes your opinion look even more baseless, invalid and irrational than it already is.

So in other words, you are upset I called you a simpleton, but have no proper retort about your hypocrisy.

I dont care if you get offended snowflake, you are a hypocrit who doesnt even own this game yet you spend your time in here chastising others who have fun wearing cosmetics that you deem are "evil and capitalist"

We have every right to stand up for ourself when you doomsayers come. You attack others then cry victim when someone hits back.

There are some cases where microtransactions can be a net positive for a game, and some cases where they can be a net negative. Here, I think they're overall neutral:

1) It's ridiculously easy to get Kudos for playing, so there's really not much value in being able to spend some money to get more. On the flip side, it is nice to be able to spend a little money to purchase something that you really like the look of and you've just spent your Kudos on something else.

2) The items that I find generally interesting cannot be purchased through microtransactions. This is good in the case of the Season Rewards, since that directly encourages players to keep playing the game and are generally fairly nice. I think the Crowns are more problematic, as it can be very difficult for the average player to gain more than a handful (outside of the Level Up rewards), putting the bulk of the really cool skins out of reach of the bulk of the player base. You don't need for everyone to be able to buy everything, but each player should be able to reasonably buy anything.

3) Everything you can buy is completely cosmetic. There are no new gun types, or character classes, or anything gameplay related locked behind a pay/play wall. A lot of this stuff can be cool to have, but not having it isn't going to magically make your game the worse for it.

In short, there's a small benefit in that it gives players a way to guarantee that they can get the lower-end stuff that they want without having to worry about falling into the "too good to use" trap, but they also made getting the stuff you can't spend money on a little too difficult to get. Overall, I'm pretty neutral on this application of it, though it does give them a reliable revenue stream going forward to help in updating and maintaining the game. Just make getting crowns easier so that average players can pick up a couple of the high end rewards each season without having to save up for multiple seasons or get really good at the game.

as I've said in my review, I don't recommend this game unless you play with friends. If none of my friends had this game I wouldn't be playing it

Go play a free to play game kid.
Free to play? Really, what are you talking about at this point even? Saying someone is a kid doesn't make you smart or cool or anything, does it?

I really want you to consider reading this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection

You critisize me critisizing microtransactions by saying I'm stupid for buying video games.
You call me a kid whilst you yourself seem to not really be all too grown up in your way of expressiong yourself, telling me to ask my "mommy" for money to buy a game.
You say I "cry victim when someone hits back" when you were the one that responded in the first place.

Honestly, really really read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychological_projection

As I said, you wanna talk about EVERYTHING except your hypocrisy. Now you brinign up psych wiki links.

Bottom line is, you were attacking others who you deem a problem because they buy cosmetics, and got called out for it now you linking wikipedia about psychology.

"I own 1300 games but think Fall Guys is evil for selling a cosmetic!"

how ridiculous can you be :steambored:

Maybe dont attack others and you wont get called out for it

Unless they add more actual GAMEPLAY to this game over the next weeks and months, as in: new maps and challenges etc., I see no reason to purchase this game or any of the cosmetic stuff. This game seems fine for a few hours of fun, but it will get repetetive and stale pretty quick. If all they will add are more skins, to grab a quick buck, to then just produce MORE COSMETICS instead of actual gameplay stuff, then the game should have been F2P from the start.

dude its not pay2win where is the problem, u dont need! to buy skins if u dont want to, so just have fun with this great game
Martok-Worf 6 aug, 2020 @ 6:21
Cosmetic Micro transaction, bigger things in this world to be upset over like the massive income inequality going on. You want to get at the heart of the problem? Rail against capitalism.
Knobz 6 aug, 2020 @ 6:45
LOL you two anti-capitalists don't realize without capitalism there would be no video games.

Can always tell who doesn't own their home in threads like this,.... they spent all their "capital" on video games and have no clue how the real world works.
Knobz 6 aug, 2020 @ 6:47
Im not here to educate people like you.

You cant have a logical discussion with people who buy 1300 video games on one platform alone then want to make posts about how capitalism is bad.

Its called ignorance and hypocrisy and Im not here to hold your hand.

So you seem to be fine with children being addicted to gambling, and spending money. Im out then as youre beyond help.

Not sure how you gathered that from me saying video games exist because of capitalism, but no one will miss your posts so see ya!

You making things up because you look like a fool railing against buying things, on a platform based on buying things.

Are you saying you cant stop buying all those games? 1300 games? WOW! You have an addiction there buddy

One can participate in and still not support a way of life. I own my own home so good swing and miss. Capitalism is ♥♥♥♥, the fact that you think the only way life can go on and people can own things and be happy is through the manipulative construct that is capitalisim shows your age, which isn't a dig btw you will grow and learn.
