Achron not working on my computer

I just installed Achron on a new computer. It's a windows model with 64 bit processing plenty of RAM left. Unfortunately, when I tried to start a skirmish in Achron it didn't take me to the match. Is this due to the game being too old or something else?

you can play skirmish vs AI in the quickplay menu, you have to press the toggle AI button next to the player slot to add an AI opponent

I did do that, but after clicking start the game brought up an error message and did not go into the match.

I just played a short game, so Achron appears to be doing better. Partway through, however, the units appeared to become unresponsive. There was also these two symbols, like a pair of 00s on the upper right of the screen. Anyone know about that?
