Strategic Command: World War I

France Invading Belgium
Afternoon all,

Playing as Central powers, didn't enact Schlieffen plan and thus Belgium remained neutral. It's October 1914 and France declared war on Belgium?! Is this working as intended?

Love the game, long time Hearts of Iron player who hankered for a good WW1 game.

Yup, it is to not give the CP too easy if they abandon the historical route. Also probably what would happen if the Germans went with Russia first, and Belgium would not allow Entente troops through its territory.

There are penalties for doing this though, such as a negative reaction by the US and Dutch governments, as well as National Morale penalties, and of course, gifting the Central Powers a new ally with its own fairly small army.

But the French do it in every game the Germans don't, and then the Netherlands too, against even there own protest. Had the French attack Belgium on a mud turn when their line was already thin, the end then came quick.

3 more games, same thing. I don't think that the democratic nations of west Europe would declare war on minors every time. I looked but I could not find any way to stop it, is there any?

It is a script, simply spoken, this script should able the AI to pressure a human central at the western front at the end 1914. without, germany can outsit the west and clear the east to easy with very small frontline.

This attack is based if me remember right, on one of the many historical battle pre war plans from france.

If you really prefer to not have the AI invade Belgium and the Netherlands, simply use the Editor to open up the default campaign, save as a new campaign which will save it in your USER folder for the game (which leaves the original untouched) and then edit the AI OFFENSIVE script by setting the first two events to have #FLAG= 0 instead of #FLAG= 1

This can be done under Campaign->Edit AI Scripts

Hope this helps,
Hubert

Dear Hubert,

I tried the editing procedure you outlined and got nowhere. The editor will not display these things for me so I can make no changes. Could you put up a mod please? I think it very important that historical accuracy should be at least an option..

I tried again and got through. Altered the numbers and fingers crossed. All looks good so far. I've learned something. Yay!

Thank you Hubert, I will try that as a work around. A better fix would be to have a 30 % or 50% chance of it happening and then only if they had a chance to take it. In my games the added length of the line hurt the French a lot more then it did the Germans.

Done and done. On with the anti-war war.

Ideally this would be a few turns of events:
1. Entente ask access to Belgium in an Ultimatum (90% chance)
2. If Ultimatum given, Belgium ask for defense from German Player (75% chance)
3. If no defense from Germany, Belgium accepts Ultimatim (75% chance) or refuse alone (25%)
4. If Defense given, Belgium Refuse Ultimatum 85% Chance or still accepts (15%)
5. If Accepted the ultimatum, Belgium Joins the Entente without Troops
6. If refused, the Entente given chance to go (90%) or no go (10%)
7. If they go and Germany refused the defense, Belgium fight alone (CP cannot enter until Belgium falls), if germany Defended Belgium, Belgium joins CP, just like now.

Maybe give some cost for each step, so it is not a simple, yes, want to defend Belgium.

Oh-oh! France invaded Belgium anyway in late November 1914. What's the deal here? Is there something else I should change?
bmorgan077 Jan 9, 2020 @ 5:09am
I have made it to Feb 15 with no French attack on Belgium, but I have a few corps there just in case.

Perhaps that's what scared them off. I sent my spare guys to the Russian Front. Looks like I'll be starting again. The more you know...

I don't think the Ai knows that they are there, unless it cheats. Check the change you made.
I changed 2 1s to 0s part way down a TXT file and saved it. I will update u if they attack.
