Artillery discussion
I am quite good (or lucky) with Central Powers in my first playthrough ( playing on normal), but now in 1916 I have the issues.

The Entente is damaging my units badly with its long artillery barrage. They are on lvl 3 (so that is my mistake, as I am level 2), but still... they can hit 6-7 times, while at lvl 2 I can do it from 1 (probably bc rain) to max 4 times.

What else I need to do to have more shells. Except researching lvl 3.

Gas research is what boosts the number of shells you get per turn.

Damn, I did not invest enough. So that would kinda simulate devastation brought by gas on unlucky soldiers?

Is there anything else? Besides obviously artillery development (which is max 2 times, right - with lvl 3 max?)

I suppose that is what it simulates yeah.
No think those are the only two things that will add to the ammo production for artillery. Think both the arty and the gas research caps at lvl 3, yes.
Beware the enemy arty when they have gotten their research up, they will be able to kill a unit with one arty unit which can leave some nasty gaps in your line.

But the shells are accumulating through turns, right. As after waiting for turn or two, I have more shells now (I finally made gas upgrade)

Yes, each turn each arty gets a set ammount of ammo determined by your research levels

Arty is incredibly powerful in the mid and late game and can take out any dug in unit even in forts which is why I think the devs keep their availability quite low. In my next scenario I will certainly be putting Arty research much higher on my list of priorities earlier in the game

Historically, there were scandals about shell shortages in 1915. Hence, by 1916 industry was producing a lot more. Just now downloading, but wondering what research areas increase production in the game, surely not gas shells alone.

Gas/Shell Production is the research category that increases the supply of shells to your artillery.
Dear devs.

That ART is a joke, that it could fire 10 times in ONE round , so late game the one with more art wins ...
wait the whole game is , who has more ART wins ...

come on devs, that is not well tested ...
first at all reduce it down to 4 shots per turn, so if you have max research, you could use all shots ... but it even gets ammu, when it moves ...

the balance is terrible, when there is one unit , which outperforms all others ...
and it is even late game, only art have 5 stars because of no losses, as it uses indirect fire !

So please have a look , how it is now, it isn't fun !

Thanks

It was no fun for the people in the real war, when more shells started to be used in a single attack at the later parts than used in the entire first year.

Tank is also lategame unit ,and it wins even more, just removes a unit from the map with some preparation, and you can attack artillery if you wiling to clear the path and risk the unit gopin into the openings.

yeah but it was near worthless at that time against heavy fortified enemies ...
it was the war of the trenches !

So the art in that game, should also be worthless against prepared fortified enemies ...
but it isn't , with a 13+ point art I kill in 10 shots near every unit !

So if that represents WW I , I wonder why there was no "Blitzkrieg" in that times ?

No that ART how it is in that game, is more like , many militarist would love how nowadys modern ART would perform ...

_________________________________________________________________________

as I said 4 shots max per turn , would fit better to the game balance ...
anyway will have to mod it myself, but feel that all players would profit from such change !

It was war of the trenches, but the breakthroughs were made, and when they were made, artillery played an important role.

However, while those hits should remain, it would be good if AI artilery could be speeded up a bit. As it takes long for it to do its job. And it makes AI turn longer than it should be
Thorin Dec 12, 2019 @ 9:36am
Yep, the anim time (or the sound file) orwhatever is a bit long with multiple 5+ shot arties.

Late game Artillery breaks the balanced game play.

I agree with FlashXAron for game play-ability it should be maxed to 4 shells a turn. Because whoever has the most Artillery wins.

I'm modding the game to 4 shells maximum.
Kudos to the developers for giving us the ability to mod the games.
ammianus Sep 16, 2020 @ 3:12am
oh, could you please post that mod somewhere?

Or just say what shall be done if it is not so difficult?
