I can't say for sure, because I don't own VX myself, but it was so in versions before and after VX, so I would be very surprised if VX doesn't have that option.
If you're planning on switching to another engine, then MZ is the newest and most up to date. If your computer is outdated (read: old) then check the requirements before you buy it. If the requirements are too high, then MV would be the closest alternative. It is a bit older, but it runs easily on much, much older computers.

The only solution I can think of is to frankenstein tilesets together piece by piece, but that seems like enough work to make it not worth it.
I am a moderator. I just keep my eyes on the chat, though. I am not in any way connected to the development team of the engine. I just try to help people and make sure we don't have any scammers here.
I had so many hours in MV that they must have thought I had to know at least a little bit about the software...
The forums on steam used to be way more active when MV was the new thing, though. I think with MZ most users moved to rpgmakerweb.
