RPG Maker MZ

RPG Maker MZ

RPG Maker 2003
Hello. I am planning on buying this and I was wondering how to make it look like rpg maker 2003 in terms of frame ratio and scale resolution... like 16x16 each block. is that something that can be done only by visuals or is there a script I can make it recreate this? I already have 2003 but I would like scripting included with the engine so that is why I need rpg maker mz.

16x16 tilesets and sprites are perfectly usable, as long as ALL your sets are from that ratio.

You will have to scale your assets up to 300%. You can do this with Gimp or photoshop or nearly any other image editor.

Just make sure you do NOT use any polarisation. I hope I spelled that right)
- With polarisation: Your assets will become blurry 48x48 tiles that are slightly off-grid
- Without polarisation: Your assets will become 16x16 tiles, but with 3x as large pixels, so they fit a 48x48 grid perfectly.

It should technically be possible to do that in MZ. However, you may need a plugin or two for 16x16 tile compatibility, especially for the tile sets. Alternatively, you could upscale the character and tile sets to match MZ's 48x48 and such using some image editing software without the need for plugins. I think there was a plugin for MV where you could adjust tile sets and character sets to be different if I remember correctly. But yeah, I totally get where you're coming from. Being able to have custom plugins/scripts is a huge advantage over 2003.
