VisuStella MZ Plugins - FREE
Some people visiting this forum may not realize it, but there's a ton of great plugins to expand this software available right now for free.

https://visustella.itch.io/visumz-sample

Want to see what they do and how to install them? Check out their YouTube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/c/Visustella/videos

I'm not associated with them, but since these are free and expand the software so much, I thought it was very nice of them to have them available (and did I mention free) on launch day for everyone to enjoy. So... enjoy them! I will be too! :D

It should also be said that these essentially replace the YanFly core stuff (battle, message, menus, etc.) that many may be used to from the VX Ace/MV days--as this is a new team headed by YanFly and a number of prominent script plugin developers.

That said--I'm really impressed by how expansive these scripts are, and it looks like you can really add a lot and customise your MZ projects right from the get-go! I'll be looking forward to seeing whatever else the VisuStella team come up with!

Kind of an interesting way to release what has been converted, only in a sample game. While I'm glad VisuStella is a team, I'm a tiny bit concerned about VisuStella becoming the defacto standard/required plugins for games to be seen as decent quality. I remember with MV Yanfly's plugins (for good reason) kind of became that, and I didn't see a whole lot of conversation about other plugin makers beyond like the few things Yanfly's stuff didn't do.

As long as they remain free, I don't think it makes much sense for somebody to redo similar features from scratch, so I'm sure these plugins probably will be a standard. But, someone could always use them as the basis to modify further, layering their own plugin on top of these so that their game doesn't have a "just another VisuStella game" vibe to it.

Well like I said, there was good reason that everywhere I looked the consensus was that if you used MV, you used Yanfly plugins, I just hope to see more pluggin makers get a chance to shine is all, and you're right as long as they are free, I'm with you there that there's no need to do similar, however we don't know how many of the VisuStella plugins will be free to use in our projects, remember Yanfly 'retired' and put his MV plugins besides a select few behind a paywall.

I'll probably mess around and make something using as few plugins as possible at first, but I am glad to see many of these plugins being brought over.
I feel like for me it's almost the other way around. I learned most of my javascripting from breaking down Yanfly's MV scripts. Having a bunch of very well made plugins will hopefully get other plugin makers to learn good habits.

As far as I understood it, the Core Plugins (Tier 0 and Tier 1) will remain free while the more specialized Plugins will become paid content. Which is okay in my book, the Core Plugins already introduce a buttload of options and a great starting point for JS cracks.

In case you're taking a jab at Yanfly putting their MV library behind a paywall last year or so, that was in response to coders from, I believe, Brasil, who got commissioned to make plugins and simply copypasted Yanfly's library with a few changes, earning themselves a pretty penny. It was primarily done to prevent copypaste commissions to happen on the most up-to-date plugins.

Their website claims that these plugins will remain permanently free.

Funny, really.

I spent the time since launch working on something that- well? They just went and did. Kinda feel silly now, but I suppose that's how it goes...but hey: less work for me now, eh? :lunar2020thinkingtiger:
Ok...now that I'm actually looking at the plugins I'm a bit less happy about this. I assume in a bid to stop people reusing their code they decided to make it as unreadable as physically possible putting all the code inside a const on one really really long line.

These no longer function as a learning resource and that's a huge bummer.

I bet Yanfly is crying his eyes out seeing how his plugins got butchered.

VisuStella is a mess. So far, everything I tired, resulted in errors. And yes, I followed the instructions step by step.

Some devs started doing that in RPG Mazker MV too later in it's life. (I started noticing only this year).

I assume its one of those compilier things that makes code "cleaner". I agree for this purpose, it is garbage though.

So many people that use plugins learn from the code and sometimes fix typos and bugs (that never get fixed otherwise). But it isn't possible with the computer generated code.

Really tragic.
I mean, yanfly has every right to do this to make sure he gets credit for his work, it's just a bummer is all.

But is it free commercial license last thing I want to do is run this some how make money one day or not, and get bit in the ass. I mean I like free but at this stage I would rather piss money on a hobby and cover my butt then get attached to assets I can't use permantly, even if odds of me getting a game finished let alone sold are slim to none lol

I found tons of free stuff in my vx ace days but the red tape over licensing and permisions was a hot mess, some I could use all I wanted if I gave credit some I had to broken a back room deal with the creator, some I could just visit a site and pay a one time fee later if I needed a new license.
