RPG Maker 3 was released on PS2 in 2004 and was 3D.
Or i would have suggested SGB.
People have already stated some good modern alternatives, but even in those you're very limited in customizing gameplay while still having to put in the same kind of work to import 3D assets as you would in any other 3D Game Engine, so you might as well use one of those if you want anything beyond simple turn based combat.

Still on early access though.
however, if it is just a silly weekend project. its fine. its pretty easy to use. runs fine. just too limited to make something that looks unique since so much is fixed.
but on the other hand, most people seem not to care about that. so it may be your speed.
I originally gave it a bad review a few years ago, full of all the limitations. But over the years they slowly kept supporting it and tweaking things. Enough for me to remove the review, but not enough to make a positive one in its place.
