New Character - Heir

In a New Game how the Heir character can be selected?
I suppose to select a character but how?
In my previous play-through my character had a child who grew up so I assumed that it would allow me to start anew with the Heir character but clearly its not the case.
Any ideas?

you have to wait so your heir is an adult and then speak again with them and at the top must be something in red and that is how you select the heir.
