I was able to pair the move controllers to my ps4 and have attempted to pair them to my surface book with the same cable. Here are the results of my attempts.
Run the game and plug the controller to the computer via usb will result in both the game and windows recognizing the controller.
Windows will recognize it as a "Motion Controller" and "set it up". The game will also notice the controller and let me know what the mac address is when I go to the battery screen. When I run the game and have the controller plugged in the move bulb will also turn white.
Afterwards while the game is running pressing and holding the ps4 button on the move controller will make the red LED blink red rapidly until it finally solidifies with no change in the bulb color.
Unplugging the move controller via usb maintains the solid red led but loses the white bulb.
In another attempt I turned off the bluetooth via a windows setting option and after booting the game and plugging in a controller, the game would rightfully tell me that it is missing a bluetooth connection and tell me to turn on bluetooth so it seems like it is aware of the systems bluetooth adapter.
Going to keep troubleshooting on my end when I have time but any Insights as to what may be going wrong would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
For anyone who finds this thread I don't know which one of my many attempts caused it to work but here is what I think did it.
Ensure no 3rd party bluetooth drivers are installed. PSMoveAPI on Windows assumes Microsoft protocol.
Ensure your Move controllers are fully charged. Mine were so I know that wasn't the problem at least for me but many of the support threads mentioned this quite a lot.
Turn on Bluetooth Support Service under your services.msc should be set to Automatic and running.
After turning this on I noticed the game cmd prompt would prompt me to unplug the controller THEN press the ps button. Which brought up the windows message box up to pair.
This was different than my previous attempts where I would plug a controller in notice no in game message and then press the ps button without unplugging it which would make the led turn solid red but not work with the game.
Finally, I would recommend not opening the browser page when pairing as it constantly refreshes which may make you miss the instruction when you plug a move controller in.
