The monsters already killed this game for me
Weird ghoul enemies don't really fit the blair witch theme. There are games that shouldn't need actual enemies to create a sense of danger. This is one of them.

What monsters from the 2016 movie? There was just a lanky witch. Even in the previous movies there was just an 'invisible force' that preyed on victims and broke them down mentally. I do agree with OP. Part of what makes the concept scary is being in a forest alone where there's no way out. Being constantly stalked by visibly seen creatures removes whatever tension there is from day to night as there was in the movies.

It's too bad the developers couldn't translate that to gameplay in some sort of survival mechanic in a similarly endless open forest while finding clues, setting up camp during the day, and surviving by night from said 'invisible force' or rarely the witch until you reach "the house".

Actually this was not the witch
maybe its was heather now a slave to the witch forced to do her bidding
getting chassed by this thing from the movie would be cool as hell

I only said witch since one of the characters early on in the movie discussed the lore surrounding the Blair Witch and how one thing related to the legend was that she was hooked up to a torture rack and left in the woods to freeze to death during winter. The witch in the movie had lankly arms and legs. Which could be assumed is a result of the torture rack, in some twisted paranormal fashion.

Does this game even have survival mechanics and a dynamic day & night cycle?

Anyway...

https://villains.fandom.com/wiki/Blair_Witch

"The Blair Wich's appearance varies, and it remains unknown if she possesses any kind of concrete form, or if she is capable of shapeshifting: The Blair Witch Cult claimed that she took the form of a monstrous, barely-human hag who "did not touch the ground." Rustin Parr saw her as an old woman dressed all in black who would vanish when approached. Mary Brown saw her as a naked old lady covered in thick black hair. Robin Weaver saw her as an old woman who floated rather than walked. Heather Donahue barely saw her at all, but she was seen to yell "Oh my God what the ♥♥♥♥ is that?" while fleeing the campsite, having seen something clearly monstrous in the forest. Even the apparitions glimpsed in 2016 remain ambiguous in nature: it's never specified within the film if she is the seven-foot-tall emaciated monstrosity chasing Lisa or the faceless woman glimpsed by James; however, according to screenwriter Simon Barret, the former is just the hideously-distorted corpse of one of the Witch's previous victims, while director Adam Wingard states that the figure dressed in Heather's clothes was the Witch herself using Heather's image."

I don't think you can compare this game to RE. Different genre, and RE has a far bigger budget, more replay value etc.
Blair Witch was made by the layers of fear devs and it only costs 25€. It's not a triple A title.
I'd lower my expectation if i were you.

Quality content > Playtime imo

Don't be sarcastic. I'm just stating the obvious. When was this game announced? 3 months ago?
Still no real infos about the core gameplay.... Yeah man, a total no brainer. Go ahead and pre order!
Only thing that carries this game atm is the blair witch name...
