Strange. At least, I think that's where the book was, but it's been a while. There is some book, somewhere, about the candles and the strifespear, in any case. :-)
The strifespear *should* have been visible at one of the stones where you have to put the candles, though. Did you check your inventory? If you really didn't see nor get the strifespear even though your quest says it's finished, it may be a bug, in which case you're better of mentioning it in the bug-fixing thread, where the devs regularly come see.
You don't need the strifespear in the sense that it's a quest-item, because it's not, but it IS a rather good item, especially for strength based characters, and in combination with "last breath". So... you can skipp it an go on with the other quests, but you won't have a fine weapon, and thus your fights will be slightly harder.
But if he says his quest is indicating 'solved', shouldn't that have been done already?
The spear appears close to the candles on/in a stone, but not directly *from* the places/stones with the candles. You're sure you checked the room thouroughly and didn't see anything there?
If i remember right, the quest gets solved the moment you finish the fight with the golem/giant thing.
@egamer1: In order to get the spear you need 1 candle in the candleholder corresponding to skara brae (look at the sculptures, they have different landscapes), it's the one opposed to the save stone, near the stairs . If you don't have any more candles you'll need to reload since i think there are 6 candles total and 8 holders.
I don't believe it's even necessary to have ALL the candles. If you choose good and/or are lucky, even one candle will do. But the more, the more chances, that's true.
Look a bit closer at the note you found in the pub. Especially the "stripes" on the note (not the text itself). These are the clues for the way in which to ring the bells.
Ohhhhhhh....now why didn't I see that for myself?!! I just kept reading the words--very tricky...heh...I also had to go back to the Adventurers Guild to pick up my rogue who knows lockpicking. Too bad there is not a quicker way to swap out party members--or is there? There is a pub in the village there too...hmmmm...
Thanks!
Ah, so it was that! I had been thinking: should I answer with 'you can use the standing stones', but I thought you already had discovered them and meant you thought it too long even with those. 😉
After all, normally one has discovered those way before you ever come to the lowlands. ( It was one of the first things I discovered in skara below).
I missed some basic stuff in this game somehow...I think I found the Standing Stones Beneath SB, but for some reason missed the fact that you have to play the right tune to activate them...heh...so I backtracked from the Forest (the HARD way) to activate the two I missed before. I also activated one on an island where I have never been (?). Is there a portal up in SB Above? I didn't check there...
I also didn't realize you can switch out Mastery abilities until level 5 or so, but that probably didn't hurt my progress too much since I don't think I had many more than four abilities by that time...
