Well, maybe. But I do note that things are improving. The toxic 'fans' have long since spouted all their venom, and if you look at the recent ratings on steam and the stars given by gamemagazines, the DC comes out pretty good. So maybe in the long run, it will turn out fairly well afterall, financially. Maybe enough to make a sequal.
Gotta believe BT5 is already in dev. since Wasteland is incoming and as part of MSS they need to keep content coming for their 'service'
I think particularly of:
- The controls like first person shooter and very natural world interaction.
- That outdoor and towns can be more intricate dungeon like than wide open area.
- The caches design.
- The use of grappling hooks but with more sophisticated hint design.
- Option of party of companions, no need of any main character.
- The songs idea but yeah songs v2.0 that is they need some new ideas.
- Perhaps extend the combat system, but I'm not sure it's the best blueprint base for that type of combats, at least the idea of 4 columns, perhaps even 5, and limited ranges and movements.
- The faeries puzzles, ok joking, there's already too many, but despite that, they always trigger my smiles.
Still one of my all-time favourite games and would love to see it reborn with modern ARPG progression and mechanics, etc.
With a bit of training/thoughtful tactics, most is doable in normal mode. Though, granted, I had to go to easy mode in Haernhold against the King and Redcap as well. ;-)
But now for my third playthrough, it was getting a bit too easy, so I set it on hard. Don't know what it'll give in Haernhold yet, though.
Anyway, glad you liked it!
The game wasn't an economic success, so there's no immediate plans for a BT5 as far as we heard. But since they were bought by MS now, they got deeper pockets, so maybe...
I'm still faintly hoping on a "special edition" or "final cut" version for the new consoles, but even that hope is quite dim by now.
That said, the game is gradually getting better and better reviews and ratings, so... you never know.
Don't know how old he is, but he might have some trouble(s) with the puzzles, depending on his age. But he has the song "Struggler's lament" now, so I guess it'll be fine on that front. ;-)
As an aside: I just had a crash (directly to PC)! I think it's the first in the last 100+ hours!
Not sure what caused it. Was fighting some skeletons, weak ones, not too many. Only thing weird about it was right before the combat, they were almost all hanging in the tree, like a skeleton-Christmas-tree. Found it so funny that I decided to take a picture before I started the fight:
