Potentially game breaking bug - Into the wood quest, steel gate magically re-locked
I did the into the wood quest yesterday which is basically a quest in which u suppose to solve couple of fairy puzzles in order to get keys, which you must have in order to progress pass couple of gates.

I have opened the steel gate and continue exploration. After around 15 min I went back pass the same gate to save my progress and logged out of the game.
Next day I load the same save only to discover that the same gate is locked, and that I don't have the key since I already used it.

Luckly, pass the gate there was a portal which I activated prior to exiting the game last night so I was able to teleport myself beyond the gate that still remains locked..
However I can still see how it can potentially break progress for some players...

Feel free to place it in the post 20th feb bug report thread. It's there that the devs look most.

I join the author! This is a very unpleasant bug! I went through some of the puzzles, got tired - I went to clean the bathhouse, reached the top floor with the boss, I realized that I wouldn’t pull it, I decided to continue doing the fairies quests, and the gates were closed, I need a steel key that I already used and it does not hang where it was. .. roll back the save for several hours - there is no desire, but to delete the game - there is.

Quoted it too, but like OP I found a portal rather fast, it was still a nuisance but minor then. But yeah if the path to a portal is blocked by a combat it becomes a major bug.

I'm not sure but I think there's few other cases like that, except they aren't total block like this one. It seems that at some points the dev tried force players minimize backtracking, but it's not useful at all.

On one of the loading screens there is an inscription "Do not forget to explore the territory, you can find a lot of interesting things" (or something like that) ... they’ve investigated it :(

It really worth explore secondary paths, but it's hardly a systematic explore of an area then go to next because often some higher level enemies will delay explore a part and sneaking won't work or won't worth it.

That said despite I put focus on it, I quote new companions level is more or less increasing compared to first character. 1.5 level higher for 5th character, 1 level higher for 6th and 7th, 2 level higher for 8th.

As I don't put high focus on optimising, I do sometimes backtracking to grind a bit, which means I skip parts and progress further. But I quoted it's part of design, some parts to skip for later, and even some parts to sneak and eventually do combats later.

Well, at that stage it’s worth a glance at the bathhouse, since there you can get several useful items, including weapons

You'd best place it in the "The Bard’s Tale IV: Director’s Cut – Feb 20 Update" thread then. Devs visiting here has diminished quite a lot since the last patch, but IF they're going to look for bugreports, it's there that they're going to look.

Just switch the game to easy mode, and take a different path by fighting very powerful teams (for the normal mode), and to find further the area with the fairies.

There should be two path to push forward or come back, not just one to exit to this stuck situation, and path to come back should allow sneak some powerful units.

It's a bit weird, though, since I only got stuck a handful of times in this game, and only two times where I couldn't get out by just moving about a bit.

That said, what you also can try, is going in grid-movement-modus (under options). This sometimes help in getting un-stuck.
