Practicing Narmaya
I just pick up the game and gonna main Narmaya, but my problem is the 623 part or the Z command where you go from to do Assault Horizon, Im doing combos but I always ♥♥♥♥ up this launch attack as also the same as the parry command on the second stance. What do I need to press these buttons easily?

Honestly that'll take experimentation, if having U on R1 helps for you the no reason not to do it. Personally I've been using an arcade stick since BBCT so I can't even use a controller for fighting games anymore. Feel free to experiment with different layouts, heck don't even be afraid to try using keyboard if you have a keyboard that doesn't suffer from ghosting keys (limited number of keys that are able to be registered at once).

As for practicing 623 I recommend just ignoring the combo and slowly doing that input over and over again in practice. As you get your muscle memory down try to speed it up more and more. You could even put on a show or movie with training mode in the background.

623 is always my problem, with the buttons so small and the combo too fast my thumb hurts so, I can consistently do the 623 moves alone but during a combo it really hurts my thumb because when I do it too fast or a bit fast it doesnt register the 6 and does the 23 for the Setsuna
So you use controller?
Yeah thumb will hurt for a few days, but it's like, it'll get thiccer and deal with the stress better. Make sure to relax your wrists and stretch your hand muscles and fingerveins.
Guitar, for example, takes a few minutes of practice every x hours or once every day for an entire month before the strings don't hurt like hell to put your fingerpads on for longer than a few minutes.

thumb? you're using the d-pad? i don't recommend it, and you can tell how bad it is by how much it hurts from just 2-3 matches

I dont feel comfortable using the left stick because its so slippery and its so sensitive, Ive got a Fighting stick too but not using it because the stick was to slipper the movement goes everywhere while the D-Pad is just small but reliable to be press easier. Why though is the left stick recommended?

Nah, the thumbstick is the worst for fighting games. Dashing is usually really annoying and akward with it. What kind of controller are you using? i use a Dualshock and the d-pad is so soft and responsive... I just slide my finger gently and special moves come out consistently. I used to play on an old 360 and that was hell on earth... It gave me a callous thumb for a while...

the only other thing; the stick. some people can use it quite well.

yes, the d-pad is reliable, but you could develop calluses there with prolonged periods of use. that is the only reason the left stick is more recommended. if that doesn't work for you either, then time to move on to keyboard.

"That is the only reason the left stick is more recommended"

What? who the hell recommends it? (besides you off course) Nobody plays fighting games with thumbsticks, that's like typing with cooking mittens! And callouses are not a bad thing once you already have them. Maybe you are refering to arcade sticks but thumbsticks? those are the very worst thing to play fighting games.

"the only other thing" hilarious!

not even gonna bother arguing if that's your tone

Well if you are recommending a thumbstick to play fighting games you have nothing to contribute anyway...

Ignore them, literally no one worth listening to in terms of control methods should recommend the leftstick. D-Pads are fine, though usually not amazing, except some special cases like xbox one controller dpad which has been, from googling around, named one of the best to use for fg's if you have to use a dpad.

You can go pro with d-pad, so it's probably not an issue per se. Arcade stick is a good goal someday if you keep playing fighting games and want one.

Sorry for offending you guys, Im just new to fighting games, Im just a beginner, I have tried different fighting games on steam and I chose to dedicate myself to this game then slowly work on the other major fighting games like Tekken BBCT SF5 and The upcoming GG Strive. Please dont flame me
Orbister Apr 10, 2020 @ 11:20am
You didn't offend me. And nobody flamed you. What did made me a bit angry was the guy giving horrible advice as if he was an expert or something. I am not an expert myself and i know that the d-pad is the standard for fighting games (when playing on gamepad). And it's not arbitrary. It's just that the thumbstick is a huge obstacle. And the d-pad is a lot more precise and easy to use once you get used to it. It's just that you need a good d-pad. Although a bad d-pad is usually still better than a "good" thumbstick. Btw what gamepad are you using?
