Creating new maps
Is it possible to create a total new map in the editor, save the map and use this map for quick battles? I wasn't able to do this.
I started by opening a scenario with the editor/dev tools, but could just edit the existing map and wasn't able to save the (edited) map alone. I could only save the scenario. Am I overlooking something?

You can't really create a brand new map in the editor; there is a map guide in the MODS subforum that tells you how to do this; I've done it and it is not so easy. Many other games do have editors that allow you create maps from scratch, but this is not one of them. To save time the terrain and height map files didn't work for me until I made them 2048x2048. Also, the map data needed smoothing, which is mentioned in the guide; the smooth parameter should take numeric values... a value of around 4 should give good results (smoothed as little as possible, but enough to smooth out glitches).
However you can use the editor to save changes to an existing map (I'd make a copy of folder of map you like and rename it to something else). To do this, you need to do two things: 1) In data\scenario there is a file called "development.cfg" ; edit this and ensure that mapEditMode=1. 2) Run game and create a battle using this map. When you go into force deployment you should be able to edit the map using map editor tools. To save these changes back to the base map press "Ctrl-S".

Thank you very much for your detailed reply Stevie Lee!!
I was afraid of not having a map editor to create from scratch. This sounds by far too complicated to create a map by the way. I think I am not going to make one for now
If you follow tutorial, preparing map using QGIS wouldn't be terribly difficult. But the amount of labor and grinding you need invest for manual fixing is huge.

can you play this game on a laptop?

You can play any game on a laptop if it's a good enough laptop.
1) Build a map using QGIS.
I have already tried to make these gradients in a separate style so you can
download THIS style file and apply it to your sector.
• download file
• go to the settings of your layer with the relief
• select “Load style ...” in the bottom menu and select the file with the style

where can i find this style to made a new map?
