Steam remote play sudden problems

So my friend and I have been playing through "My league" on NBA 2k20 and for like 6 sessions it's worked fine. Suddenly now when I connect to his computer, I can interact with the remote play settings but I have zero interface with his game. The only notable change we can see is that it's assigning me different colors than the base red it default game me. They assign me to red and it doesnt seem to change anything in the game.
