How do you win jumpball? (dumb question)

First off, I play on the Switch, and this is my first 2k game, and ive NEVER once won a jump ball, I don't think Im even pressing the right button...is it the top, left, right, bottom buttom, what am I doing wrong?

And for clarification, i know I'm supposed to wait till the ball reaches it's max height, I just still lose against CPU every time

Push Y (Jump/top button) when the ball leaves the hands of the referee, not when it's at max height

you need an athletic big on your team that helps get jump balls
