I can also confirm after today's update I was able to see my name in the my career menu stats page, during the pre and post signs during a game, as well as the Starting Lineups splash page and in game jersey.
To help those who don't know, here is what I did:
Let the update download and finish updating.
Create a new myplayer.
Enter Last NAME 1st then FIRST NAME
Enter same Position and same left or right handed ness and Same Jersey number
Used a different skill focus (i was defense + driving, this time i went with playmaking)
Used different height, weight, wing span
After making the player, START my career, NOT test OR edit build
Was asked to skip to NBA start of season, said YES
Selected same team
Once mycareer menu opened up, I quit game
In the main menu selected MyCareer that was missing name and it should load mycareer menu. Check stats page and your name and number should be the one you made !
Enter game to see if it works .
Hope this helps those who had this problem !
It works. I imagine the only thing really needed is to create another player and leave once you have the menus.
Its supposed to be a result of the new patch. I myself started over before hearing of this.

i believe that most of us had this issue and knows about famous 2k workaround for this. Which goes like this:
"Create a new player, with new build. Name it the way you want. Start the career. After that, your previously created player will have the name back."
I created that second player, with some random name, not with the name i had on my first player. Just to see what will happen. Now, my name, on my first player didn't come back. My first player has the same name as my second player. So, their solution is copy the name from second player and paste it on first player. :D
This is not the end. I asked 2k support to try to fix this for me, this is what they replied:
"The player name issue workaround was designed to allow you to name your original player the way you wanted to call it. Because player names don't have the option of changing, the only thing I can suggest is that we clone your player over a placeholder that has a name you want. In that case, you would get your players back with a proper name, but you would lose the season story progress."
My next question was:"what does "lose the season story progress" mean?"
Their answer:
"Story progress means you would start the season from scratch, your stats will remain the same, but the minutes and the contract start from game 1 of season 1. You can sim your way up to the current point and not replay those matches if you don't feel like it.
We don't actually have any options to edit your files, and it was intentionally designed like that as to prevent any potential abuse of the system."
Mike Wang officially posted that patch is out that solves this problem, but it doesn't. And then i receive these replies from his support guys.
So, bottom line of this thread is not to discuss the name issue, but to see how 2k developers actually think when they develop the system or solve bugs and issues in their software. And also to see how 2k managers cover up the mess, even with this "minor" issue, that's been around for years. After this, it's obvious that it's ridiculous to expect from them to make something meaningful and it's quite clear why every year 2k is becoming worse and worse.
It would be great to hear you thoughts on this, if you spare a minute to read and reply.
All the best and see you in Park and Rec. :)
They act as bunch of new comers and amateurs that created the company yesterday. This is unreal. :)
