hate that.
Now latest game i'm having difficulties with is derail valley, i'm needing to either swap trigger/grip around, or adjust sensitivity of grip as i'm constantly dropping things in the game making it difficult to play. players simply tell you to adjust settings in steam ,which makes sense, only it doesn't wor4k, you cannot click edit button to edit settings while in game, and yet again any settings you change outside game in steam vr controller settings for derail valley won't load once you launch the game. and again i would love to reach out to steam support to help, only they again won't let me submit a ticket for controller issues telling me to contact the game developer.
So no, noodles, there is no way to know if a game actually works with index controllers, even if they have valve index logo on game store unless someone confirms it works. and game must work without touching steam settings as that is broken and unconfigurable as well and no way to get help from steam support on the issue.
I guess valve made index only for people who already have the vive systems so they put absolutely no support for backwards compatibility since most people instead of complaining or asking for it, simply pick up their old wands and are good to go. Someone like me on other hand who spends $1000 on index for first VR system is screwed out of a lot of VR content due to not owning old wands and 0 support from Valve because i'm in a minority, and they only care these days about the bottom line. Not customer service anymore.
EDIT: Interesting, i went to lookup the one museum game i was troubleshooting for hoursr one day trying to get controllers working which was, "The Virtual Reality Museum of Immersive Experiences" thats the one i was able to talk to the dev about, turns out that index compatible icon is now gone from store page, wonder if it was due to me reaching out to them in forums and directly to dev. But anyway feel free to try, if you some how get that game (it's free) to work with index controllers please tell me how, as i can't get any control configs to stick when i save them and steam will not help me.
First of all, here's a full list of supported VR headsets/goggles and their controllers:
HTC Cosmos
HTC Cosmos Elite
HTC Vive
HTC Vive Pro
Microsoft Mixed Reality (various VR headsets, not AR)
Oculus Quest (link only)
Oculus Quest 2 (link/airlink only)
Oculus Rift
Oculus Rift S
Steam VR (various VR headsets)
Valve Index
Also:
The beta is far behind us.
The demo is out now.
The release will be in 2Q 2021, so it's really close.
