What makes you dislike 3?
P.S. no, don't skip any part.
The story kinda weak, the substory kinda boring not all of them though some of them is pretty well interesting, combat feel like Yakuza 0 but clunky, not many great mini games (Boxcelios is boring)
What you would mostly miss out on is who the kids at the orphanage are, the return of Lau Ka Long, the fall of the Kazama family, who Goh Hamazaki is (as he's an important part of Saejima's story in Y4), the final fall of the Nishiki Family, how the Florist got his underground base back from Majima and seeing Daigo's maturity as the 6th chairman.
So there's bits that are relevant for later on, but as a whole, it's forgettable. I'd argue to stick with it until the end, but it's up to you.
I prefer the combat from 3 - Yeah 4 does build on top of it, but aside from Kiryu and Akiyama, I really did not enjoy playing as Saejima and Tanimura. Not to mention game is stupidly easy in comparison to 3.
I prefer the soundtrack from 3 - Whiskey and Rhapsody is probably the only song I fondly remember from 4, the rest didn't click with me. Y3's "edgy/Tekken 5 like/Jet Set Radio like" soundtrack was a homerun.
I prefer the story from 3 - Who were the villains in 4 again? I only remember Saito due to how unlikable he is. Also rubber bullets, I never thought I would roll my eyes playing a Yakuza game. Tanimura was probably my favorite one, but even there I have a hard time remembering what actually happened.
I prefer the pacing from 3 - At worst you hang out with kids in 3, but in 4 you have to run around boring new locations with a running speed which is drastically slower than one in 3. Speaking of locations....
I prefer the locations from 3 - Rooftops, sewers and Little Asia were some of the most annoying places in all of Yakuza games. They are extremely narrow, visually boring, and there's barely anything to do in them.
-3 combat is worse due to how often enemies block, especially dependent on difficulty, it’s manageable later on but that takes awhile and you still need counters. 4 you may not like certain characters but you have variety.
-soundtrack is subjective
-3 has a villlain? You’d think mine but we get lau ka long and black Monday that do hardly anything for most of the story. Also suspension of disbelieve is a stable of the series it’s not exclusive to one game. Plus the info dump in an entire chapter and the kids are surface level and do nothing for the story.
Andre, the Wesker looking dude with extremely corny dialogue, he's a joy to watch.
Lau Ka Long, a returning character, nothing much to say about him.
Joji Kazama, had a great QTE and when guitar kicks in in his theme, its just glorious.
Tamashiro, he's Y3's version of Saito, a villain you're supposed to hate and I'd say he did his job really well.
Kanda, probably the most ridiculous non-animal boss in the entire series.
Hasebe? He's the most forgettable villain, but at least his intimidating walking animation had me dying from laughter.
Meanwhile who do we have in 4?
Saito, he's genuinely the best villain in the game because he's so unlikable.
Arai? That guy has "I'm boring" written all over his face, he's supposed to be all "calm and cool", but instead he's just boring. Why do I find him boring? I don't know, whenever I see his face I can just imagine a dialogue where he says "Hello. I'm boring. Please take me seriously.".
Who else is there? Kido? I only remember him because of overused "BALLS OUT KIDO!" memes.
And last but not least, Jingu 2.0, but more boring.
