In fact, at the very least, I know Kiwami 1 actually adds a bit more story to the game as well for one of the characters.
If you wanted to play the originals regardless, you would have to get them on an old console (PS2) because at least in the US, this is the only way that they exist, aside from emulation.
Only in Japan did they ever come out with a Yakuza 1+2 HD Edition on PS3 and Wii U.
(This HD Edition btw, did not sell too well..)
Don't know if any English patch and such exist for these versions of the game either.
So essentially, the only way you can play is
0 > Kiwami 1 > Kiwami 2 > 3 Remastered > 4 Remastered > 5 Remastered > 6 > 7 [Yakuza: Like A Dragon]
I just started on Y3, so going in order -- very tough going from Kiwami 2 to 3, but.. what can you do?
If you care about spinoffs too, then Yakuza: Dead Souls would also be between 4 and 5.
Kiwami 2 i give it a pass, it's a beta of the Dragon engine, have censored content like all the pc releases, run poorly and have cut content too but it has fun glitches and stupid engine that makes the game fun.
The first game totally got run over by a clash of ton and atmosphere, the story is ruined, all the subquest are too, the majima ♥♥♥♥ makes the game unplayable and they locked the main protagonist move style from the OG game under that crap mode. The only good point i give this game is the tiny expansion on Nishiki's story. That's all. No other positives.
