A list of everything removed from this remaster.
-quiz x quiz

-Cross Dresser missions And one more named "Great Genius Showdown"

-Yakuza 3 hostesses replaced, this is due to the fact they are real people and sega did not renew their licence.

-The Don Quijote theme, this was in all 3 remasters at launch, even in english, but was removed via patch, most likely to keep it the same as the pc/xbox versions that can no longer use the song (now restored with patch!)

-All licenced songs (now restored with patch!)

-Box art removed smoking Steam grid has ya covered!
Cover[cdn.steamgriddb.com] Banner[cdn.steamgriddb.com]

-references to the imperial japanese flag (now uncensored with patch!)

-Reminisce videos (most likely due to using ps2 graphics)

-Additionally, the licensing agreements with PepsiCo and Unilever were not renewed, leading to the replacement of products such as AXE and Gatorade with generic items. Pepsi NEX bottles are still visible in vending machines however."

(It should be noted that excluding the licenced songs, all these changes were made in the jp version, they were not removed by Sega of America.)

The licensed music will probably come back in a fan mod like it did for zero, kiwami and kiwami 2 at least.

How will people manage without Pepsi NEX?

I dunno, I think drinking aborted fetus cells might be addictive.

Thanks for the list. Out of interest, what is quiz x quiz? Quiz minigame?

Basically needlessly difficult for foreigners, when the intention wasnt to be frustrating.

Persona classes are AFAIK supposed to be stuff that "every schoolkid knows" in Japan, & the way the games are structured, if you get the questions wrong during lessons it doesn't matter all that much (you lose out on a slight boost to Knowledge) provided you remember the information for when the exam comes round.

Answer x Answer is a Japanese version of the "pub quiz" video terminals and is tuned to be challenging for folks with native-level knowledge.

This is leaving aside the fact that it uses custom animated sprites rather than a system font for text, so even simply translating it would have been a disproportionate amount of work compared to fighting / racing / shooting arcade games which have minimal text & in many cases existing English versions that could be used.

It would be fair to mention that the PS3 Western release had about 22 side missions cut, along with other content, which made it allegedly back in this remaster.

It's a strange situation. In terms of the actual product being delivered with the localization, these remasters (3 especially) are superior to the PS3 versions, however, for me personally at least, I have more ill will towards the localizers. The previous localizations had content cut for the sake of time and money: No one was giving the pretense that cutting this content made it a better package, or that they were doing more justice to the creator's vision by making these changes. Whereas that is the exact pretense the current localization team presents (and very likely believe). When you make a big deal about how you're completely retranslating the games from scratch in order to have a more faithful translation, you're asserting, and actively pushing, that you are working to make the most faithful translation of the work possible. So when your "faithful" translation has dumb, out of place memes and blatantly westernized terminology, cut content, rewritten dialog to change the context of content etc., it makes you look a lot worse in my eyes than people who sacrifice the faithfulness/completeness of their translation for business reasons.
Also, while this wasn't the main change I have in mind when talking about this, I know someone will try this argument somewhere in this thread - the Michiru content being removed was in the Japanese versions of the remasters as well, but if you believe that the localization team had no influence in that being the case you're delusional. Might as well say the SMTxFE censorship is acceptable because the japanese version of the switch port had it because Atlus was too lazy to port two versions.

Nagoshi likes to say things out on the table and he said he didnt like it no more.

This is the guy that said he will add things to his games even if the company hates him for it.

is it still worth buying?

I wonder what would have happened if he said "i love it but we have to remove it" lol

It's worth noting that despite some cuts, it still has a lot less cuts than the western PS3 version had. It's objectively superior to the western PS3 version.
