Tips for the fishing minigame
So, I finally got my tuna, and understood a few things that might make your effort shorter. The timing is obviously screwed up, the fish changes direction and force too fast, and everything is super jerky and hard to react to. Still, a few pointers:

1) Use only shrimp or smile burger basic set, i.e. baits that will allow targeting the very last part of the fishing space. Restart the minigame until the farthest part of the fishing space contains a fish to catch - that's your tuna.
2) Throw the bait so that you aim to the very back of the field. Be ready to hook (sometimes it does not happen anyway)
3) After hooking the fish, the goal is to eventually pull the fish back to you (150m). Remember that there is no time limit, you can take as long as you want. There are two ways to fail - pulling too hard and snapping the line (the indicator will turn red and there will be warning sound before that), and pulling not enough and letting the fish slip out of hook (it's not intuitive, but it can happen).
4) Your priority is to keep the tension in the safe, middle areas (green to yellow). Both extremes are dangerous and should be avoided. In case of high tension, lower the fishing rod and stop reeling in. If it does not help, then as a last resort, let go some of the line with LB - better to lose some than snapping the line and having to restart. If tension gets too low (blue), immediately raise the rod and reel in - if it does not help, pull the rod in the opposite direction the fish is moving. Low tension is not that common, but can cost you the round.
5) The fish is periodically moving left and right. The trick is to get the rhythm, and reel in while copying it - you should pull left if the fish is going left, and vice versa.
6) Pay attention at the end, everything will speed up crazy, play it safe not to snap the line in the few last meters.

I can't believe how much this helped! I've been on-and-off trying to catch a tuna for days, and as I was about to give up on one that pulled itself back to 120m from ~50m, I reeled it all the way in with no issue! This guide was a godsend, thank you.

I just caught three more tuna in a row for the fun of it. I'm gonna be the richest man in Okinawa! :happycrank:

Sorry, but this wasn't very helpful imo. For me the actual thing that helped was realizing the best way is to keep the rod towards the ocean at all times and slightly tilt it the way the fish is going. This way you can keep reeling in most of the time while the gauge stays going slowly down also. The tuna changes enough that the gauge also goes up at those times. Some guides say the tuna takes 3-5 minutes to reel in, but this way I got it definitely faster than that. One last thing that I noticed that if the tuna is in the very furthest part of the sea, you can cast the line to the end and reel it to 142 meters for it to bite, but that's just based on few tries. Anyway I'm happy to catch it.

This is a really good method, caught 3 tunas in about 10 minutes with this, haven't had my line break once yet.

You're the one person on the internet who knows how to fish i swear. Everyone else just copy and pastes Cyricz guide which i spent hours following thinking i was just bad.
I'd been on this minigame for ages didn't think i was ever going to do it.

Holy crap this worked like a charm. Spent the better part of an hour trying to do it the "normal" way and got nowhere. Used this method and I caught one second attempt.

Hell, I had more trouble with having too much slack lmao. Thanks a ton

This and Special K were the only thing that made it possible.
Thank you.

This - also DO NOT use controller if you can help it as it'll frequently get stuck down and you'll lose it to blue. Got it within a minute of trying this strategy.
