realistic night fury and avatar banshee just don't fit with this game. other games have done that so much better. dragons edge is a how to train your dragon + the isle concept in the works and it looks absolutely fantastic and uses zero stock models.
i know its up to the devs but i think in the long run you should ditch the copy concept stuff and think about original ideas and designs. in my opinion that is the most fun thing about world building.
coming up with ideas and sitting down doodling unique concepts, you start with one thing and over the course for a few days you make an interesting unique creature to do whatever you want with. this is what Draconia is doing. you are losing compared to your competition because you are not using your creativity.
its not a "healer" its a pandoran creature that took someone ages to come up with. you ever read the avatar biology book? its not a plasma dragon, its literally a more realistic take on toothless.
please sit down with a blank sheet of paper and one singular pencil and sketch something. forget what a dragon looks like. forget about colours. just draw something and add. dont use a rubber, mistakes can lead to a more unique design later on.
Seriously tho they need to start looking towards making things more original and stop pulling on other people's works. If you wanna make a How to Train Your Dragon game go partner up with the studio instead of just stealing the designs and slotting it onto your stuff. If people took 'inspiration' from this game and made a similar game to this with similar designs from your dragons you'd be rightfully pissed off to.
"its not a night fury. its my ORIGINAL concept! its a SHADOW SCALE, he has smaller eyes and slightly different abilities to night furies!"
they take a concept and differ it slightly, thats not a new dragon, thats aggressive magpie behaviour.
Originality is dead you know. Toothless is just a stubby black dragon with a Disney Stitch face. So you may as well go and winge at Dreamworks too. Heck might as well go and yell at everyone because everything is based off of something already in existance. You're fighting a losing battle here XD If you don't like realistic toothless or banshee (lawl) then bye. But lots of us like it, so that's what we're getting.
I find it funny though you are picking out only 2 of the like 10 dragons slated for this game though....you've seen the Nurse right? The Bio? Micro feathered? Why not focus on those that don't look like much out there?
there is a difference between making a piece of media inspired by something else and copying something word for word and just changing the punctuation.
originality isn't dead, but it will be killed off if games like DOD don't get off their arse and design something unique. read my first comment on this post please.
I did read it. And it's your opinion, which is fine. But you are basically DEMANDING the devs to be entirely different people and do what YOU want. I'm just telling you now, that isn't going to happen. If you want a dragon game with designs YOU like, make it yourself. But I certainly (and many MANY others who are watching this game), we LIKE what we see, and most of us don't CARE if it's inspired heavily by something else. Frankly I like dod's designs MORE. Why? Because HTTYD's style isn't my cup of tea. I don't like the twig legs and pencil-thin necks. Toothless is like the only exception but even he is still pretty toony thanks to his big eyes. But the stuff on Toothless that makes toothless toothless is still the LITTLE details. His large eyes, his nubs on his head, his personality and...maybe the shape of his legs? But that's relaly it, because I cna name like 30 dragons in other media that all have 4 legs, 2 wings of that exact style (maybe not the same combo though), spikes on the back, that exact bullet body shape....like...I really just don't get the arguement. It's like saying anyone who makes a bird character is copying someone else, even though the character is based off of a widely common design for the species...None of the dragons in this game have anything CLOSE to the way toothless face looks, so to me, I don't care. They look cool, sound cool, and yet again you are ignoring the dragons that actually ARE nothing like other media...like the Nurse...
You will not convince me, or anyone really (not even lawyers) that these are blantant copies, and frankly, I don't know why you care so much. Just look at things with face-value and if you like what you see, regardless of what it might look close like, then judge it that way. If you like it cool. If you don't like it, cool. If you don't like it because you feel like it's copying someone else who hasn't even pitched a fit about it (trust me, Dreamworks and such knows thanks to people like you who wanna be their white knights), THAT is not cool. I mean...would you like it if someone came to you and said 'what you made is exactly like x and y! change it!', when you know you didn't copy anything exactly? I highly doubt it. The devs are going to design and use what they want.
I really like the designs. I don't care if most look similair to other dragons I've seen. they are still dragons and every concept was hand-crafted by talent. I applaud their take on these neat fictional creatures, and I can't wait to play as them!
