how do you get pearls?

I saw that some ppl have pearls already and I am wondering if you have to pay a lot to get them.

The only pearls right now are the ones from the kickstarter and patreon tiers. Other pearls will come to the game yet. AI will drop them and presumably you'll be able to get some through quests. Don't worry, you don't have to spend money. Just need to wait for the update where they'll be put in.
