What happened to being able to apply the shimmer?
When I look up how nesting interacts with the shimmer I find a lot of old stuff talking about it being something you could add to kickstarter skins if you have access to it but as it is currently it's an entirely separate skin. Since the shimmer can not be passed on does this lock people who want to breed up their stats from being able to use it and a higher stat dragon at the same time or will there be some other way of raising the stats/the checkbox system to apply the skin returning? The shimmer is basically my favorite thing in the game right now and I kind of haven't bothered with breeding because I don't want to loose the shimmer to be nested into a stronger bloodline.

If you current dragon is a Kickstarter skin that you own, you can apply the shimmer to it via the Character Panel. There will be a button option next to the name of the skin.

So that works when breeding too? Follow up question. If you are a backer do you still have to be nested by another backer to use your skin or can you use it if two somebodys with a random skin are helping you up your stats? Like if I am a backer but two high level...anything else nested me can I come out with my backer skin or do I have to specifically look for other people with the skin in order to use it in that way?

No, it does not matter who nests you in. If you hatch as a KS skin (so Black, White, and Grey, or the patreon lifetime for crimson shimmer), and you happen to own that color from KS, you can apply the shimmer. You will not hatch with the shimmer EVER, but you can just apply it right after hatching, so long as you are a backer and you own the matching key (ex. you need to have pledged a tier that gave you white in order ot get the shimmer for it)

Do the parents have to have the black for me to have the black if I am a kickstarter (which I am. I have the melanistic and shimmer which I LOVE). Or can I be a mutant born from default skin parents if I have the skins on my account?

At least one of the parents is required to be black to pass on the skin, you won't get it from random skins.
