Rani's mom is annoying

You know, I'm going through the game rn and I wondered the same thing. why would they choose such a massive buzzkill, stick in the mud as her companion? She isn't even fazed at all by how the environment changes radically after clearing the gunk or worse, at the fact that Rani herself alone discovered an alien civilization, given the fact the dialogue implies those are still ultra rare. She doesn't even want to step 6ft outside camp and downplays everything. Money this, money that, pipe pipe pipe. I'd understand if it was a typical lesbian couple trope, with the reckless and the rigid. Still, just got to the lower mines, so I don't yet know if there's a big reveal later that redeems her in that sense,

No it's the typical financial stress of repossession hanging over their heads and Beck's keeping it to herself. Big stress right there. they are screwing around on a planet that doesn't seem to have any financial promise to dig them out of the ever growing hole they are in.

How would that fact change the effect of the character on the player? How would it "redeem" the character?
