Turn off all trades for the entire league or allow trades but make them low frequency and very difficult.
Turn off waivers so nobody can add waiver claims. I don't usually do this for the entire league as it can create 40 man situations for some teams who can then just DFA and assign guys to their minors.
Turn off the amateur draft. I like doing this when I am doing a custom game of a historical team in a franchise mode. Without the draft amateur free agents sign with their correct teams so Yaz for example signs with the RedSox and teams have no benefit from tanking.
When I am GM of some team I usually allow low frequency difficult trades by the other teams but if want to be internal I voluntarily do not make trades for my own team. I usually allow waivers but again voluntarily do not make my own claims if staying internal. If I want to stay internal I do not even make Rule 5 claims. Playing franchise mode starting in the current year I do have the amateur draft and make choices for my team and I allow free agents but I do not try to sign anyone by my own team if I wish to operate within internal inventory. Two things I turn off for all teams when free agents are allowed are established international players and independent league players. I guess I don't like some rich team finding Roy Hobbs.
