The coaching STILL isn't fixed yet? Seriously?
In OOTP 14 and older, I was able to view how good a given batting or pitching coach was. Not just reputation which is based entirely on whether they were on good teams or not, but actually how good these coaches were at teaching players how to bat or pitch.

For some unknown reason, this was changed so that these abilities were no longer viewable except in commissioner mode. And every year since, threads will occasionally pop up asking to change coaching in a positive way or at least make the attributes viewable again. And every year these requests are ignored.

Does anyone from OOTP monitor these boards? Why on earth did you do this to the coaches? And why can't these attributes be made visible? I'm not asking for some kind of upgrade. Just let us view the damn attributes which are necessary to know when deciding which coaches to hire. Without improvement, or at least the presentation of more information, the whole idea of personnel is just a giant waste of space.

Just showing us reputation is useless. It's like masking how many home runs someone has hit and masking their HR power rating and just giving us a reputation score based on how many runs were scored by teams which they happened to play on.

Sorry but it's been 7 years now and this should have been a pretty simple thing to fix.

Hey Alterego45,

One of the things we did add with OOTP 21 was an updated coach view when you want to hire them. We've included not just reputation but a relationships column that will display the relationship the coach will have with the players for the current level selected (current opportunity) and also the development influence on the players. This pairs up with the hitting/pitching focus info to give you a little more detailed info about coaches you can hire. You should be able to sort by dev influence now to get the best possible hitting coach, pitching coach, and even bench coaches and managers for the staff places you need to fill.

So no longer do you have to go to those coach profile tabs to see how well a coach will do with the minor league team you wish to hire him for. While I do understand it isn't a direct showing of the attributes the relationship and dev influence columns are representations of those attributes rating.

And while that may not be enough for some players it is a step in the right direction for people who have wanted more coach updates for years (me as well). We hope to continue moving forward each year with more things such as the changes we have made this year.

Thanks
Alex

But isn't that largely the same as before? I know a hitting coach who focuses on power will have a better relationship with power hitters, etc. And we both know you might have a power hitting coach who works better with rookies, but his highest attribute is 26. It only tells you, at most, what he does best and not if his best is any good.

I agree the sorting will help with managers. Right now I click through the managers now to see their relationship/development scores and that is largely what I use to decide who to hire.

I play historical/fictional GM only and often do some stats only play. The 3d modelling is great, but realistically I won't use it much. I have no interest in Perfect Team. So coaching, player personalities, the way players are evaluated, historical minors where there is no farm system and major league teams have to purchase their players... things like that are a much bigger deal to me than to most people.

I really need to study the manual...I've been playing this game for years and never knew reputation was tied to success of the teams that employ the coach in question.

I don't know if it mentions that in the manual, but yes... reputation has no correlation at all with how good a coach actually is. It's entirely based on how many years they've been actively employed and how well those teams have done.

In OOTP19 I'll pick a coach based on what they're asking for. If you've got 2 coaches with the same rep and the same experience, the one who is asking for more money will have the better stats.

As it stands, everyone - the AI teams and the coaches themselves - know how good the coaches are except for the player.

I understand completely AlterEgo45, technically the player influence and dev influence is directly tied to that attribute. So as coaches have higher and higher attributes those will actually effect the quality of influence that coach will be shown to have with your club. So we do technically display that but not directly displaying the rating. It's a 2nd hand way of showing how good that attribute rating is. But I will absolutely keep pushing for more things to be added to the single player game as that is also my favorite part of OOTP as well. After 12 years of playing OOTP I still love seeing single player mode getting updated and made better and better.

Thanks
Alex
