Are you a Mac user by any chance Breeder?
Volstead Mar 20, 2020 @ 2:04pm
No, I use Windows.

Breeder have you used the official ootp forums not this one because they use the official ootp forum more often.

Have you tried something simple as reinstalling? Are you trying to install it to your desktop? Ive seen users do this. Who know why
Volstead Mar 20, 2020 @ 3:56pm
Yes, I have reinstalled it 4 times, still the same error message. I did not have this problem with ootp 19 or 20

Hey Breeder,

Being a Windows users helps that gives us some other options to run through for fixing that.

1-We should definitely look at running both steam and the game as administrator. Just in case its a permission issue. To do that we need to right click on the ootp21.exe icon. You'll find the icon by going to your steam library and right clicking the game then going to 'Properties' > 'Local Files' > 'Browse Local Files'. That will open the folder ootp is installed to and you'll see the ootp21.exe icon there. Right click that and then go to 'properties' > 'compatibility' you can select the option to 'run this program as administrator' on that screen and then every time you start the game it will automatically run in admin mode.

You'll also want to do the same thing for the Steam.exe program file itself as well. The steam.exe file one you can find most likely in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.

2-You may want to uninstall OOTP21 after doing that admin change and reinstall it with the new permissions. Q-Are you installing the game to a steam library on an external hard drive by any chance?

Let's start with those two and see if that makes a difference for you.

Thanks
Alex

OK, Thank you for the response. I did the administrator thing, and reinstalled it, I still get the same message.

2-No, I'm using my main hard drive.

There is one thing I found strange, when the game is installed, there is no ootp folder in my documents

OOTP folder in docs is for saves only this year. Everything else in steam folder

I had an issue similar to this last year. I didn't have enough HD space for the installer to uncompress and install the files.

I have 125 gb of free hard drive space, so I don't believe that's the issue

Hey Breeder so it's not getting the customization folders to the documents folder. That's a key that we probably need to resolve first. Let me see how we can go about doing that change. There is a chance that we can manually edit the appdata config.app file to manually move that directory to where it is supposed to be. Give me the evening and i'll try to get some instructions about that around for you.

Thanks
Alex

Yes, There is no folder from ootp in documents, not even an empty one. Thanks for the help so far.
